The Rockbrook Art Room

Mrs. Kistner

Welcome to the 2015-16 school year.

The art room is off to a great start this year with a BIG change! We are using a "Choice Based Art " curriculum where students will design projects based on their own ideas and choices. We have 5 art stations in the room which are: ceramics, painting and drawing, technology, STEAM and fiber arts.

Students will research and plan for a project then spend 3-4 class periods in a station.

The kids are excited about this new system and I already have students bringing in donations from home!! There is a list further down on this page with donation ideas.

We are learning how to think artistically, creatively, and critically while learning about the engineering thinking process. That process includes creating a question, problem or idea, brainstorming about it, making a written plan or sketch, creating the project then asking ourselves how we could improve it.

Our art room always incorporates science, math, history, technology, and language arts along with social skills.

Please visit the school and see all the great artwork in our hallways!

A little about me!

This will be my 9th year as a teacher and 2nd year teaching art here. I taught third grade at Rockbrook for 3 years and before that I taught art in San Antonio but hurried back to Lewisville as fast as I could.

I hold a B.A. in Art from the University of Texas at Austin and Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University. My certifications include ART K-12, General Ed K-4, Gifted and Talented and ESL Supplementals.

My husband of 22 years and I have two cool sons! Josh graduated from Lewisville HS and is now a sophomore at UNT studying Communication Design and Will is a junior at Lewisville HS studying everything and hopes to be a chef one day.

We also have three labradors named Bella, Boudain and Rochambeaux.

I love to read and write which we will do in art to discuss our work and the work of some of history's great artists. I also swim, hike, kayak, crochet, sew and needlepoint, play a little piano and guitar and love to travel.

Volunteers are always welcome to come in the art room and help out!

Thanks for being awesome Rockbrook families! I look forward to working with your children.
