Principal's Paragraphs
Dear Belair Families,
It's the eve of the first day of school! A magical day/night of preparations, picking out clothes, finding the perfect bed time story, and trying to get your child(ren) to fall asleep early enough so that they will wake up bright and early for the first day!
The first day of school only comes once a year! I know you want to make it special! Please feel free to take pictures in the front of the school or at the back by the gym. Gym doors will open at 7:00 - remember, only bus riders will enter through the front doors! Please do NOT park in the bus lane or on the playground where car riders are unloading. Parents are welcome to walk into the gym on the first day with their child. Teachers will be there to greet you and help you find their spot. Students will head to their classrooms at 7:20 (on normal school days but will be 7:35 on the first day. This is when parents say goodbye to their child(ren). Remember, quick goodbyes mean dry eyes!
Have questions about our handbook, policies, or procedures? Just ask! Our teachers and staff will be sure to help make sure all of our parents are well informed! The link to our Belair Handbook can be found right below these paragraphs!
Belair has the BEST parents around! Thanks for your amazing support of our school!
It's going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Milhollin
Principal
Thank you,

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival 7:00-7:45. Supervision begins in the gym at 7:00. We encourage parents to have car riders at school no later than 7:40. Car riders should be dropped off at the back of the building and enter through the gym doors. The car rider line is a continuous drop off line. Cars should pull up to the picnic tables closest to the cafeteria doors to start the line. Students should get out of their car on the passenger side of the car. If an adult needs to get out for any reason, they should park in the side parking lot. This includes, but is not limited to unbuckling a child from a car seat, helping a child open the door of a car, helping a child gather their belongings, or carrying in items for a child. Parents should not park in the middle of the playground, even if they are walking their child to the gym. Do not pass vehicles in the car rider drop off/pick up circle. Stay in the line, even if your student has unloaded. Walkers will also need to use this entrance. Gym doors will be locked at 7:40. If the gym doors are locked parents will need to enter through the front doors with students and check in at the office to see if the student(s) need to be signed in and get a pass to class (when the 7:45 bell rings the student is late).
Arrival AFTER 7:45 AM: Students arriving after the bell rings at 7:45 a.m. must be brought in to the front office. YOU MUST COME INTO THE OFFICE TO SIGN IN YOUR CHILD.
STUDENT PICK UP AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY
Children often become frightened or confused when parents are late or make frequent changes in pickup plans. Please be sure your child is aware of their after school pick-up plans and always communicate changes with your child’s teacher and the office. Please choose one form of transportation (walker, car rider, bus rider or onsite Ycare) and keep to it the majority of the time. If you need to make a change in how your child will get home, please send a note to your child’s teacher or, in case of emergency only, call the school office before 2:00 p.m. If you are picking your child up from the office please do so before 2:30 p.m. After 2:45 you will be asked to wait in the lobby until the car line is finished which is around 3:05. Please do not park in the bus lane during dismissal time. To ensure your child’s safety, we will not dismiss students in the car rider line to anyone that does not have a transportation card for the student. Students who are riding home with their parents must be picked up in the back of the building by the gymnasium and should not be picked up on Belair Drive or Southern Air, or in front of the school building, or to cars parked along Belair Drive.

Want to be a Watch D.O.G.S.?
If you are a father or father-figure, we want your help to make a positive impact. Consider joining the Watch D.O.G.S. team at Belair Elementary School.
What are Watch D.O.G.S.?
Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) is a family and community engagement program. Goal of the program is to demonstrate a positive male role model for students and help educators in a local school.
What will it involve? Volunteering some of your time during the school year. Goal is to find an event or day to volunteer in the school year, but you are more than welcome to volunteer as much as you want. Examples could include:
Help with activities and registration at Belair STEM and Literacy night events.
Supervise/encourage students at the Ninja Warrior Belair PTA fundraiser at Capitol Cheer.
Run and cheer for students at the Run Like a Rock Star event.
Play dodgeball during the school day against Belair kids as a fundraising reward.
Help with Belair field days or award assemblies.
Pick a normal school day and volunteer for a half or full day. During the day, you may read books to students, help with educational activities, play at recess and P.E, eat lunch with your child/their class, assist with traffic flow and any other activities where you actively engage with students.
