Mrs. Gwin’s Hat Makers
Mrs. Gwin’s class made hats for Mystery Science. We were on a deserted island and had to design a hat because the sun was beating on us. We only could use the materials from a lunch box. Those items were: paper plates, paper towels, paper bags, tin foil, yarn, and clothes pins. First, we drew our design and then we made our design. When all the hats were finished, we described how our hat would protect us from the sun.
The Wedding of Q and U
In December, the kindergarten students celebrated a very special event…the Wedding of Q and U! If you are not already familiar with this event, let me fill you in! It is a silly, fanciful, wonderful way to teach students the spelling pattern of “qu” in a way that is truly memorable. The wedding reinforces the idea that every time we write a word with a 'q,' we always follow the 'q' with a 'u.' Just like a typical wedding celebration, there were two parts, the wedding and the reception. The wedding took place in the auditorium surrounded by 150 of our closest friends (grades pre-k, 1 and 2) and finished with dancing and CAKE. Students danced to songs like "Q and U stick like glue" and "NO Q without U." The cake was provided by the life skills class. The officiant was our very own principal, Mrs. Lester. Fun was had by all! Special thanks to teachers, parents, students, PTP, and the high school life skills class.
