Acts of Character: Respect

The Shannon Park Acts of Character Program revolves around teaching, promoting and recognizing positive character traits in students. During the month of April, we will be focusing on the character trait of Respect.

Author Visits 5th Grade

5th grade students enjoyed their week long visit from author and publisher, Lara Zielin. Ms. Zielin worked closely with 5th graders on writing, and specifically the life skill of journalling and creative writing with a focus on character development.Thank you, Site Council, for sponsoring this opportunity!

Kindness Retreat

Shannon Park 5th Graders had the opportunity to participate in Youth Frontier Kindness Retreat, a high energy retreat to empower kids to be “everyday heroes” by using kindness to include others, to be respectful and to make their school a better place. We are grateful for the opportunity for our students and for the RHS students that volunteered their time to serve as small group leaders.

Show Your School Spirit: Tacky Tourist Day on April 28

The Kindness Council invites all students and staff to participate in "Tacky Tourist Day" on Friday, April 28. Be creative as you dress like a tourist! (Ideas: sunhats, sunglasses, fanny packs, Hawaiian or safari shirts, maps, sandals, pretend passports, leis, binoculars, etc.)

Lost & Found

The Lost & Found table is overflowing with clothing from our students! It has been neatly organized for easing viewing. Please stop by to check it out for any missing items! (Boots, sweatshirts, snow gear, and more!) All items will be packed up and donated at the end of the day on Friday, April 14.

Athletic Equipment Donations

The Shannon Park Kindness Council has partnered with “Surplus for a Purpose,” a volunteer effort to collect and provide gently used athletic equipment to the Rosemount Area Athletic Association. Shannon Park will be collecting equipment in the main foyer from April 3rd – 7th. Families should plan to deliver these items to the Shannon Park main foyer in person (items should not be sent on the bus with students). Please see the flyer in your child’s Friday Folder for more information.

MCA Testing begins Next Week!

Shannon Park students in grades 3-5 will take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment between April 10 - May 3. While illness cannot be helped, we are asking families not to schedule any appointments or vacations during this testing time. Make-ups are very limited.

Setting Up a Dreambox Parent Account

The Family Insight Dashboard allows you to track student progress in DreamBox and receive email tips on what your child is working on as well as what you can do to support their learning at home. Dreambox is an adaptive program that adjusts the difficulty based on the data it receives as the student completes tasks. Due to this, it is important to remember not to help your student complete the tasks or it may get too hard too quickly.

Login to your student’s school account on a PC/laptop or Chromebook. This feature is not available from your student’s iPad.

Use the URL: https://play.dreambox.com/login/jk34/9emg

Or, go to sp.district.org

Click on “Menu” - “Families” - “Student Resources” - “Dreambox”

Your student will then need to log in to their account. In most cases, this is the same as their Collab account. If they don’t recall their login information and are in kindergarten or first grade, click on “No classroom code? Click here.” and select your student’s classroom. They can find their name and picture password.

Once logged in, click on the “Set up parent access” link.

You will then be prompted to enter your personal email and create a password for your family account. You can add multiple students. You then will be able to log in from your own device and access information as your student completes Dreambox milestones, read suggested related activities you could do at home and view their standards dashboard to monitor their academic progress. You can also view the activities that your student has recently completed to try it out yourself without impacting your student’s account.
