The Mangus Messenger

Dear Parents

I cannot believe today is the last day of April. It's been a very busy month of testing and I am so glad to report that all of our state and progress monitoring assessments are completed. Our students persevered and I am extremely proud of them.

As we gear up for an active month of May, we are on the downhill slide to the end of the year. We are seeing some interesting social/emotional behaviors in class because they do not want to leave their friends. Please help me by talking with your children about their anxiety and fears centered around the end of the year. I greatly appreciate it!

The Denver Art Museum

Our field trip was incredible. I know I already sent you an email about it, but I had to mention it again. Thank you, Mrs. J, for organizing and making it come alive for all of us. Here are some more pictures.

Reading - We have started a compare/contrast cycle using the book Baseball in April. Venn diagrams are coming in very handy.

Writing - They completed their Argument papers via Google Docs. I love the peer editing we are doing in class because the discussion is authentic. In addition, Billy Collins (the author of the poem "Wolf") will be getting letters from our class. We hope he writes back.

Math - Double digit division seemed intimidating at first, but they are getting the hang of it. Estimation is helping them verify if their answers are reasonable or not.

Variety Show

Our clan has been practicing their skit for the Variety Show. It's pretty comical to say the least. I am most pleased to see their willingness to pull together and just have fun. It is yet another tribute to the community we have built. I hope you can come to the ECC on Thursday, May 5th at 5:30 pm to see it.

Rehearsal is the day before (ECC on Wed, 5/4 at 3:30 pm). It will be nice to actually practice on the stage where we will be performing.

Thank you for all of your support!

Our last day at the ECC was a swimming day. Thank you to the wonderful drivers who got us there and back in the warmth of their cars. They loved having their water toys and they did a great job being respectful to the other visitors that were close by.
