News from Principal Karmazin

Good afternoon Bryan Middle School Families,

The MAP growth testing for English Language Arts wrapped up this week, and we started the MAP Science test. Next week we will finish the science testing and start the MAP Mathematics test. It is our goal to provide every student, remote learning and in-person learning students, the opportunity to participate in these district assessments in a safe learning environment. Students will be completing the series of Math, Science, and Reading/Language Arts tests starting the week of April 26. If you have a remote learner, please CLICK HERE and complete this form in regards to the MAP test.

Water Bottles: With the warmer weather, students need to bring a water bottle to school each day. We currently have our water fountains shut off as part of our Covid safety protocols. We have a water bottle filler and sinks in the classroom to refill bottles. We have a limited number of 20 oz bottles of water available. If you would like to donate more water bottles, feel free to drop these off in the main office.

Thank you,

Andrew Karmazin

Khan Math Academy Resources - Part of Math Grade Every Semester

This year, Omaha Public Schools has partnered with Khan Academy to provide an incredible math resource for middle school and high school grade-level math courses. The points below summarize your student’s role in this exciting district partnership with Khan Academy.

▪ Students engage in Khan Course Mastery to strengthen skills from current and previous grade levels.

▪ Students work on Khan Course Mastery on their own time and at their own pace. A minimum of 30 – 60 minutes per week is expected.

▪ Students will earn a summative grade each semester for their work towards skill mastery according to a district provided rubric.

▪ Students can access Khan Academy Course Mastery on any device with internet connection, such as laptops, iPads, and cell phones.

▪ Students who use Khan Academy for 30 minutes a week are more than twice as likely to meet grade-level math standards per Khan research.

▪ Students advance through Khan Course Mastery by correctly answering questions in mastery challenges, unit tests, skill quizzes, and/or individual skill practice. Videos and hints are immediately available to assist, clarify, and explain.

Teachers will encourage progress and will help with goal setting and provide feedback on their progress in Khan Course Mastery every two weeks. Your encouragement as the parent/guardian is also vital as we all work together to increase students’ confidence and progress in their mathematics learning.
