Quaternary Time Period

By, Gisele Fajardo

A Major geologic event of that time period.

The Quaternary Period is the emergence of Upright man. The species was said to be originated in Africa and then later in Eurasia. The scientific name was Homo erectus they are basically humans that are now extinct.

What was the climate like?

It is an ice age Cold, freezing temperatures

Dominant organisms living at that time - animals and plant.

Some animals that lived in the .Quaternary Period where mammoth, mastodon, giant bison and woolly rhinoceros, which were well adapted to the cold. Then some plants that were living at that time where mosses, sedges, shrubs, lichens and low-lying grasses but that was when there was ice everywhere, during the interglacial period most of the land was covered with Tropical rainforests. Some animals that lived during the interglacial period were the usual animals we see today put in much bigger and stronger versions.

What was the environment like?

The environment during the quaternary period was mostly cold and that was 1.8 million years ago which was called the Pleistocene epoch. Then Holocene epoch started 11,000 years ago and still continues today the environment was a warm period during roughly the interval 9,000 to 5,000 years BP.

What are some things you would like to see.

Some things that travelers would like to see would be the wooly mammoths in the Pleistocene epoch. In the Holocene epoch you can see the evolution of man.

What should travelers pack for comfort and safety?

If the travelers would be going to the Pleistocene epoch we would suggest to wear big coats, Pants, gloves, hats, and boots. Then in the Holocene epoch we would recommend to wear A Jacket, pants, and boots.

What dangers might travelers face?

Some dangers we might face in the Holocene epoch would be the same problems we face today but with animals that are larger. in the Pleistocene epoch we would face problem with saber tooth tigers and wooly mammoths.
