Chirag's Awesome Knowledge
Industry, Mesopotamia, Migration, Government, and Geography
Social Studies
This first six weeks, we have learned many things. We learned about the government, migration, industries, world geography, and Mesopotamia.
World Geography
This was one of the first things we learned these six weeks. We learned that longitude lines run East to West and measures North and South. Latitude lines North to South and measures East and West. We also learned to label the continents on a world map. Not only that, but we learned about physical, political and special purpose maps. Last, we are currently learning to label a map of the Middle East.
Government
We also learned about the government. I learned that there are two types of government. They are limited and unlimited. The limited government is ruled so that the laws apply to everyone. There are two types of limited government. The first one is Republic. This is where the leaders make the rules and laws. An example is the U.S.A. The other type is Constitutional Monarchy. It is where there are kings and queens, but they don't make any laws. The other type of government is the unlimited government. There are many types of unlimited government. They are anarchy, dictatorship, communism, and oligarchy. Anarchy is where there are no laws. Dictatorship is where the government is under complete control of the leader. Communism is where the government owns everything and controls your whole life. Oligarchy is where a group of wealthy people are the leaders and treated better than the rest.
Migration
Migration is where people move. There are two types of migration-push and pull migration. Push migration is where somebody is forced to leave. Some examples are war, natural disaster, and if your house breaks down. Pull migration is where something attracts you. You don't have to move, but you want to. Some examples are weather, curiosity, and the type of environment.
Industries
I learned that there are four types of industries-primary, secondary, tertiary, and Quaternary. Primary industry is when you find something in nature and sell it like wood or agriculture. Secondary is when you process raw materials to make them more valuable like wood into paper. Tertiary is where the country begins to provide services like restaurants and education. Quaternary is where the country gathers information like research and making graphs for what they are selling. An example of a country with all four industries is the U.S.A.
Mesopotamia
Currently we are learning about Mesopotamia. I have learned that Mesopotamia is the place between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. I also learned that the Sumerians lived there, but after losing a war with the Akkadians, the Sumerian culture was lost and the Akkadians took over. The people lived there because of the fresh water and fish supply. The topography of the land also encouraged settlement there. The people of Mesopotamia invented the wheel, irrigation, and making clothes with loom.
