What Does a Resource Math Classroom Look Like?
A Quick Look @ Differentiated Instruction
Content (What do I teach?)
- Engrade Scavenger Hunt!!!
- Scope and Sequence- Curriculum Map for all six weeks
- Unit Summary- Description of the unit
- Big Ideas- Major themes of the unit
- Essential Questions- Open ended questions to assess master of topics in the unit
- Vocabulary- academic and incidental
- Standards Specificity- unpacked TEKS
- Learning Plan- suggested lesson resources and ideas
- Accommodations & Modifications- tools for our special ed students to access the gen ed curriculum
- NOTE: Secondary mathematics is organized differently than elementary.*
Engrade is the starting point for ALL teachers, including Special Ed teachers. Our students are held accountable to the same standards and assessments as their general education peers. It is with these standards and expectations as our primary focus, that we then differentiate the content to meet the needs of our special ed students, specifically those in resource.
- Scope and Sequence (Teacher Overview)
- Modifying the Curriculum
- Lead4ward- for use in looking at the grade level TEKS, as well as pre-requisite TEKS, and other STAAR related resources and information
- TEKS Vertical Alignment via STAAR ALT
- STAAR Blueprints
- Math Antics
- STAAR Griddables
ACTIVITY:
- Please Look at your Scope and sequence
- Which TEKS do you think are going to be your main focus?
- Find your Focus Standard in the Teacher Overview.
- Modify the skill to the level at which your students are functioning (vertical alignment document).
- Find or develop a lesson that addresses the modified skill (chart paper, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Be prepared to share out!
Process (How do I teach it?)
- EQUIPMENT CHECK OUT!!!!
- Manipulatives (Math Kits, Digi Blocks, campus resources...)
- Interactive Notebooks (more district training to come...)

Product (How do I know they got it?)

- PLAAFP (Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance)
- Aware
- Observations
Providing Feedback
- Focus on what the student did correctly & describe what they can do to improve
- Characteristics of corrective feedback: 1. It is provided. 2. It is immediate. 3. It is specific and informative. 4. It is focused on the correct response. 5. It is delivered with the appropriate tone. 6. It ends with the student giving the correct response.
Checks for Understanding (formative assessment)- stop every 8 to 10 minutes to check for understanding
