January Newsletter
Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!
The new year is upon us and many individuals will set New Year’s resolutions. Although we are optimistic that the goals we set are attainable, we must be realistic and allow ourselves some flexibility. As we move into the next few months, please encourage your children to set mini-goals, strive for achievement and recognize their accomplishments. Here are a few suggestions to help initiate the conversation at home:
- Get to school on time by setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier.
- Establish a morning routine.
- Prepare backpacks the night before.
- Eat breakfast daily.
- Follow the three school rules: Be Safe, Show Respect, Do Your Best!
- Engage in extra-curricular activities.
- Communicate with your child’s teacher.
- Be cognizant of time. Although we encourage students to explore outside interests, we need to be sure they are not over doing it.
If your child can commit to one “resolution”, the benefit will positively impact his/her entire day. Please discuss these possibilities with your child and have him/her take the initiative to become actively involved in creating their own learning experience.
On another note, this time of year brings bouts of illness. The cold and flu season is unavoidable and often we debate whether to send children to school. Please use your best judgment. You know your child best. If your child has a fever or is vomiting, please keep them home and call the school to inform us of the absence. A note upon the child’s return to school is required to make the absence “legal” or “excused”. If your child is complaining of a stuffy nose or a sore throat, have him/her attempt school. If he/she is truly not feeling well, he/she should visit the school nurse. She will call parents as necessary.
As a reminder, please contact the Main Office at (716) 478-4402 to inform us of any change in your address, phone number or email address.
