Evergreen Community Update

Our Mission
Principal's Message
Hello EMS Community,
I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing weekend. Our construction crew had a super productive week as the walls to the new wing of the building went up. Crews are still working around the clock to see that the project is completed no later than Spring Break 2020.
We had a great Fun'd Run Kickoff Assembly on Friday morning and students are preparing to run as many laps as possible on this coming Friday during their PE classes. For 7th graders who do not have PE this semester, they will be running during their elective classes.
As a reminder, brand new lockers will be installed over the long weekend of October 10th-13th. Students will be asked to take home all belongings from their lockers on Thursday, October 10th, and will be issued a new lockers the following week.
I'm sure you have noticed the weather changing rapidly. If you know of any students in need of a jacket/coat, please contact our counselors in the counseling center. We are teaming with the Elks Club and they have resources available to help.
Below are a few pictures and more information about the current happenings around Evergreen.
Have a great week!
Mr. Gulley
Evergreen Principal

Fun'd Run Kickoff Assembly
Fun'd Run Friday, October 4th
It is time for our annual FUN'D RUN here at Evergreen Middle School. Every year all of our students participate in the Fun'd Run to raise money for our AMAZING school. It is a great fundraiser that allows our community to directly support the student body here at Evergreen. 100% of the funds are spent here at Evergreen on OUR students. We are able to support our positive behavior rewards (B.O.S.S) program, technology purchases, student activities, and student events, including special assemblies, school parties, and end of the year activities. FUN'D RUN takes place on Friday, October 4th, 2019!
Student Incentives: For each $25 brought in, students will receive a ticket for one spin on our Wheel of Prizes (prizes include limo ride, pizza lunch party, candy bars, or gift cards for treats, movies or books.) The prize bag has the exact same prizes as the wheel, and will help us speed students through the rewards line. (So, if you bring in $50, you’ll get one spin and one pick from the prize bag, $75 for one spin and two picks from the prize bag, $100 in donations gets you one spin and three picks, etc.)
Students bringing in donations of $150 or more get an automatic spot on the limo ride, in addition to their other prizes. Students bringing in donations of $250 or more will be entered into a raffle to win a personal assistant for a day, in addition to their limo ride and other prizes from the wheel.
Thank You Construction Crew
Dental 3 Returning to EMS Soon!!
Monday and Tuesday this week Science classes are hosting Oral Health Presentations hosted by Dental3. Presentations will cover brushing, flossing, plaque, cavities, sugars, and dental sealants. Then in two weeks, Dental3 will be at Evergreen (October 14-18) providing FREE dental screenings and sealants to those who turn in a completed permission form. Healthy teeth are important to your child's overall health. A dental screening is a quick look inside your child's mouth to check the overall health of their teeth. Dental sealants are protective coatings put on the back teeth and are a quick and easy way to prevent cavities. Please return a signed permission slip to use this FREE service! Permission slips will be sent home with students today OR you can complete on online permission slip by clicking this link: https://tinyurl.com/EvergreenD3.

Staff Recognition Journal
I started out the year recognizing Scott Harrington for his commitment to ensuring such a positive culture and climate for our students and staff at EMS. He's put in so much time to our Leadership Program to see that our students understand what it means to truly serve others. He doesn't just talk the talk but he walks the walk and shows students how to lead.
This past week, Mr. Harrington recognized Kathy Grant, our AVID 7 and Computers teacher. Kathy was recognized for her kindness and 29 years of dedication to Evergreen and it's community. Her willingness and ability to always be solution-oriented stands out above anyone I've ever come across. She's just an all around amazing human being.
Stay tuned to see who Kathy recognizes in October.
WEEKLY ATTENDANCE PERCENTAGES
When you look at attendance percentages, whether it is a school or individual, here is how it compares if you received a grade for attendance.
- >95%=A
- 93%-95%=B
- 91%-93%=C
- 90%-91%=D
- <90 =F (Chronically absent)
So looking below at last week's attendance, we met our goal only one of the five days. Our goal is to reach the A level each day of each week. We received 1 A, 3 Bs and 1 C. When students are here, it makes everything run more smoothly.

Tardy Sweeps Still Going Strong
PARENTS: If your student will be late to school, please call our attendance line or send them with a note. We are trying to be as consistent as possible with holding students accountable for getting to school on time. We've often had students show up late to school stating that their mom/dad woke up late or had to stop some other place on their way to school. Please know that if they do not have a note or you do not call the attendance line, their tardy will be unexcused.

Game days, each squad will play a game at a designated time in the morning. We, as always, reserve the right to adjust the tentative schedule as we get more details on the gyms that we have access to for the weeks of the program and the number of kids and volunteers.
LITTLE DRIBBLERS Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th grade
WE FOCUS ON PLAYER DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE COACHING OF KEY BASKETBALL FUNDAMENTALS, INDIVIDUAL WORK ETHIC AND TEAMWORK.
We are a parent volunteer run, basketball organization, serving the kids of the Glencoe community. We make the game of basketball fun through skill based stations and game play. We make teaching the game accessible for all volunteers, through simple drill instruction and focusing on the fact that we are on the court to encourage our kids.
We will also have the Glencoe High School basketball teams and coaches as guest coaches each week.
VOLUNTEER!
We had over 250 volunteers last year!!! As many of you know, Little Dribblers volunteering is as much about giving kids high fives and a positive experience on the court as it is teaching the game through our stations. You do not need prior basketball experience to volunteer for Little Dribblers. We at GYB strongly believe in the positive coaching experiences we can and should be giving our kids, to help them be successful on and off the court.
