Piecing the Puzzle Together
Discovering Jenna's Secret
The Adoration of Jenna Fox
This week we slowly discovered the secret behind Jenna and why she is so "curious". Some of us were able to figure it out before Jenna did, but many were just as surprised as she was when she found out what her parents have had hidden from her. Next week we will be having discussions about the novel while also introducing the end of unit assessment. Stay tuned to our daily log!
Peer Paper Pass
This week we concluded our marking period long Friday Free Writing project by having each student participate in a peer paper pass. Each student printed their piece (completed or not) and we blacked out their names in order to secure anonymity during the activity. Students then had the opportunity to share pushes and praises for their peers as they read their work. Finalized pieces were due on Friday, January 23rd.
Placemat Activity
The Adoration of Jenna Fox included various social issues and topics that are relevant to society today. Collaborative learning groups were assigned a topic paired with a website to research and note findings on a placemat graphic organizer to share with the class. Each student in the collaborative learning group was assigned a part of the placemat with a specific question to answer. After the students worked independently to complete their part of their placement, they then worked as a group to answer the center question.
Mini Research Project
To continue the theme of studying the issues within the novel we are currently reading, we had the students work in collaborative learning groups to explore new topics. This time, the students were responsible for finding a credible website on their own to obtain the required information for their topic. Each student was then exposed to each topic that was researched as they "Read the Walls" by walking around the room, reading the posters made by their peers, and then recorded what they learned on a given handout.
Renaissance Learning STAR Reading Assessment
Last week we took this benchmark assessment to see where each student stands in comparison to when they took this earlier on in the year. Paperwork regarding your child's score will be sent home from the main office. Please see the event listed below, Parent Academy, as it is an opportunity to learn about our assessments and how they are utilized.
