Zilker Library Fall 2018

Welcome Back!

What a great start to another school year! I am having a blast kicking off my 4th year as the librarian at Zilker. Classes have started coming to the library, books are being checked out, and we've got a few events coming up this fall. Read on to see what we're up to and come by the library any time to say hi!

Mrs. Sharp

Zilker Librarian

Book Care 101

It's a Zilker Library tradition to start the year with a lesson on caring for books! Students visited the Book Hospital during their first library trip and discussed how to take the best care of their library books this year. Pre-K and Kindergarten students received Book Doctor Assistant badges so they can help our Book Doctor, Mrs. Sharp!

Be a Friend of the Zilker Library!

This donor program is in its 16 year and is going strong! Make a one time contribution of any amount to the Zilker Library to help fund our programs and expand our collection.

This year's goals include: increasing our collection of multilingual and diverse picture books and replacing two end of life Mac computers.

Donations this year are especially appreciated as Austin ISD faces budget shortfalls and, therefore, the budget for reading materials for our library has been decreased by 60% for the 2018-2019 school year.

Forms to make a contribution will be in Thursday folders, are available in the library, or can be downloaded below.

We appreciate the support!

Volunteer in the Library!

We are still looking for volunteers for a time slots to help classes during their library time. If you are interested in volunteering, sign up for a slot using the Sign Up Genius. Please email Mrs. Sharp, too at

*Weekly volunteers are preferred, but volunteers are welcome to alternate with one another.

And don't forget about our Annual Book Fair! Mark your calendars for the week of February 25th!

We Need Diverse Books!

Hooray Donors Choose!

At the end of the 2017-2018 the library had a Donors Choose project funded for 26 new picture books featuring diverse and minority characters. They arrived just recently and are being enjoyed by both students and teachers alike. One of our goals for our library collection this year is to increase representation of minority characters in our library and these new books are the first step!

Check out our stats from the 2017-2018 school year!
