Weekly Update
Week of January 21st-24th
What We Learned Last Week:
Market Day took up most of our week, last week. However, a few other things we worked on were: Math: addition with regrouping, also how to count money and make change (which came in handy at our market!).
We discussed the Chinese Lunar New Year. The kids learned how to write numbers 1-12 in Chinese characters, and completed some addition problems using those characters. The children looked at a chart to figure out what animal they were, according to their birth year. In our class we had: rabbits, dragons and snakes. (2011-2013)
Market Day Prep and Event:
Coming Up This Week:
ELA:
Reading Selection: Dear Juno
Comprehension Focus: Drawing Conclusions
Writing: Narrative Writing
Math: Students will continue to focus on addition and subtraction with regrouping using the traditional method as well as solve word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100.
Science: We will be starting a new Unit on Earth Science. We will study different types of landscapes, and understand that landscapes can change over time; due to nature and weather, or by man.
