Welcome Back
The Problem of the Week encourages the application of mathematical knowledge and the development problem solving strategies, and creates an environment in which students explore, discuss, start and start over, and communicate about mathematics.
Students
• are challenged
• apply concepts
• use higher order thinking skills
• learn there’s no one right way: connect to their own way of thinking and build from their ideas and experience
• develop perseverance and confidence in the ability to do problem-solving, to come up with ideas when you didn't think you could.
• learn mathematical strategies: Use an understanding of number to test cases, systematically explore for patterns, generalize, transform to recognizable representations, efficiently name and organize for manipulation, prove (explain), multiple representations, explore and look for variation and constants, etc.
• appreciate the value of writing for learning as well as for communicating: move from description to explanation to reflection.
We want students to persevere, work their way through a problem and never give up! Students may struggle with these higher level problems and that is okay. They smile from ear to ear when they have succeeded in solving these difficult problems. This is a life long skill that will give our students the ability to work through even the most difficult challenges.

- Thank you to all those that have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it. For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
