ALTA VISTA NEWS
Great ShakeOut - Tomorrow
This is an excellent chance for dinnertime table talk around the topic of earthquakes - how to be prepared and how to respond in the event of shaker at home. At the bottom of today's Vista Views you'll find a short video, as well as some fun resources to use at home.
Tomorrow, be sure to ask your child to teach you how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On.
Rainy Day COVID Guidelines
Here are Union School District's "Rainy Day COVID Guidelines":
- In the event of rain, students will be in their classrooms for recess and/or lunch. This includes while they are eating and drinking.
- Students will wear their masks and ONLY remove masks during eating and drinking.
A time limit of 13 minutes for eating will be set if eating indoors. Physical distancing as practicable. This means that students will not necessarily need to eat at their desks
Older students are taught to replace their masks when not actively eating.
Students with allergies will be accommodated per current school protocols. For example, if a student has a nut allergy, the classroom is "nut free", whether we are eating inside or outside.
Depending on the weather conditions, covered areas with a table outside the classroom may be utilized for eating.

REMINDERS FROM LAST WEEK
Halloween & Our Monster Marathon
Although we aren't able to invite you onto campus for a parade or a walk-a-thon, we want the students to celebrate the season. We are combining these two special events into a Monster Marathon. Every student will receive a pedometer to track their steps from October 29 through Halloween, but the fun begins at school. Each grade level will have an assigned time during which they can walk or run the track. This is the perfect opportunity for students to show their costumes to friends. There will even be a chance for students to walk with their big/little buddies and share their costumes.
Students will continue to track their steps over the weekend (even trick-or-treating counts) and submit the total before the stroke of midnight on Halloween. In addition to the fun and community spirit that is a part of this celebration, it is also a terrific opportunity to raise money for field trips and other activities at Alta Vista.
You can find more information about signing up your child (or your whole family) to be a part of our Monster Marathon by scanning the QR code below.
