Glenealy School Newsletter
15th April 2021
Message from Phil
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am very pleased to have welcomed 100% of our students back to school after the Spring Break. We have had a great week in school, learning and celebrating what we love about Glenealy. It has been wonderful to hit the ground running after a holiday and whilst there are no changes as yet to the current schedules it feels like we are moving in the right direction. I will keep you informed of any changes as and when they happen.
Daily temperature checking at home - Reminder
The recording of the daily temperatures for all students attending school continues to be a priority and a CHP requirement. This needs to be done as soon as possible each morning (and by 8:30am at the latest).
Please can you also continue to be cautious and vigilant about illness, and do not send your child to school if they have any of the symptoms of Covid 19.
If any child displays or reports any of the symptoms which could be Covid 19 whilst at school, we will ask for them to be collected as soon as possible. Please consider the safety of our community and do not send your child back to school until they have fully recovered. If your child is experiencing any symptoms for a prolonged period, Covid 19 testing is recommended.
A further reminder that children need to be fever free for 48 hours before returning to school.
We do understand that children are suffering from environmental allergies at this time of year. Please contact the school nurse if this is the case. The child(ren) will need a doctor’s note and an accompanying negative Covid test result to allow them to be present in school with these symptoms. The school nurse, Anna, may be contacted on nurse@glenealy.edu.hk
Students walking home unaccompanied from school
If you would like your Year 5 or Year 6 child(ren) to walk home alone at the end of the school day, we would like to remind you to update your child(children)'s information on Gateway.
The steps are:
Log into your child's Gateway account.
Under "Student Demographics" you can access the "After School Arrangements" tab.
If you are happy for your child (ren) to leave school and make their own way home, please select the "Walk Home Alone" option from the drop down menu for each applicable weekday.
Once we receive these instructions via Gateway, we will add their name to our master list and issue them with a pass to show at the school gate which will permit them to leave the school site unaccompanied.
Students will not be able to leave the school site unaccompanied unless the instructions have been updated on Gateway.
Lost Property
We have a large amount of clothing, lunch boxes and water bottles building up in lost property, unfortunately none of it is labelled. If you know that you have lost something please take a look as you come into school on Friday morning. The items will be available in the grassed area near the main entrance.
Draft Calendar for 2021 - 2022
Some of you may already be making plans for the summer to visit friends and family outside Hong Kong. I am pleased to be able to share the draft Calendar for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. Please note that this is still in draft form subject to the Hong Kong Government confirming all public holidays for the 21/22 academic year in May.
The start date for all students at Glenealy is the 18th August. Please note that we are expecting all quarantines to have been completed by that date and are planning for all students to be available to join on site classes.
And finally…
Thank you to all of our community for making the return to school both at ‘drop-off’ and ‘pick-up’ so smooth. Thank you also for your vigilance around illness and for adhering to the rules before the break, around close contacts that were shared in the last few Newsletters. We will continue to follow these rules if we encounter another outbreak of Covid 19 cases within the community. Nothing is certain, but hopefully with the growing up-take of vaccinations that should be less likely now.
Have a great weekend everyone
Best wishes
Phil
