Children's Grief Awareness Day
Children’s Grief Awareness Day is Thursday, November 16, 2023
1 in 12 children in the U.S. will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.
Children’s Grief Awareness Day began from a desire to bring attention and resources to grieving children throughout the world. Children grieve differently than adults and often experience feelings of isolation, confusion, and despair after a death.
This day is an opportunity to provide care and support to a child or teen affected by a loss.
Taking a “PAUSE” in order to support someone who is grieving is the theme of Children’s Grief Awareness Day for 2023 (see below “PAUSE” suggestion):
Support is available at your child’s school!
If your child or teen needs support grieving a death, please contact your school’s principal or school counselor. Our district provides school-based bereavement counseling through our contract with Community Hospice - Grief Support Services led by experienced grief specialists.

The committee also elected its Chair and Vice Chair, in addition to being provided an update on Measure E progress and spendings.
