Coronavirus Update for Families
April 9, 2020
No Digital Learning or Student Lunches on Friday
Digital Learning Continues Next Week
Digital learning will resume on Monday, April 13. Families should remember that it is a district expectation that students are participating to the best of their ability in the learning activities provided by their teachers.
At the elementary level, our focus for new learning moving ahead will continue to be literacy and math. For grades K-4, we will layer in new math learning as students are getting comfortable with new learning in literacy. The priority at this level will continue to be literacy and math to best prepare our students for the challenges that lie ahead.
At our secondary levels, third quarter ends today. Families should watch for emails from their specific school for details on when grades will be posted.
Parent Surveys
Thank you to all of the families who provided valuable feedback in our surveys last week. We take your feedback seriously and will be working to make improvements based on common themes in the responses. While the vast majority of families gave positive feedback, we did hear that families want to ensure that we are assigning appropriate workloads for our students, streamlined teacher communication, and more consistency across grade levels.
To allow our teachers time to plan around these themes, there will be no digital learning on Friday, April 17, for K-8 students and no digital learning on Monday, April 20, for Grade 9-12 students. Teachers will use this time to meet virtually in teams to prepare essential learning and instruction for upcoming weeks.
Technology Issues on District Devices
MASD Angel Fund
For the past several years, the MASD Lunch Account Angel Fund has been helping feed kids with financial need - and now that includes meal service during our school closure. Special USDA funds do not completely defray the cost of the free bag meals being offered during the closure. If you find yourself in a fortunate position and wish to donate to our Angel Fund, you may send it to the attention of Pamela Harris at 385 E. Veterans Way, Mukwonago, WI 53149. Please make checks payable to MASD and write "Angel Fund" on the memo line. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to students within our district!
Severe Weather Awareness Week
Next week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. This year, the state will participate in a Virtual Tornado Drill on Thursday, April 16. Click here to learn more about the Virtual Tornado Drill from the National Weather Service.
Now is a good time to review all of your family’s safety plans for severe weather and fires. During this Safer at Home period, your family should review fire escape plans and where you will shelter during severe weather, test all smoke detectors and portable radios in the house for working batteries, and review plans with your children to ensure they are safe in the event of an emergency.
