Midori Yamanouchi Ph.D. Award
DEADLINE: Submit completed applications to LHS Student Services by March 15th.
Amount: TBD
Criteria:
- Aware will be given to a qualified graduating senior at any local high school who will be attending a local college or university.
- Students who have applied will be recommended by LHS using the following guidelines: Academic achievement and or/honor student, good citizenship and service towards others, and leadership.
- Financial need is not a stated criterion, but may be considered in selection of candidate.
Completed applications should be returned to LHS Student Services by March 15th.
The #GaryInspiredMe Scholarship
Deadline: Submitted to Students Services at LHS by March 15th

The Scranton Area Foundation is proud to administer the #GaryInspiredMe Scholarship to be presented to students in 2019. Gary Lukasiewicz was a Riverside High School senior who lost his battle with cancer. Throughout Gary’s life he was a person who inspired others to become better people, conquer adversity, overcome challenges and never give up. If you have a student who you know has overcome obstacles in their life, please have them apply. Each school may recommend ONE candidate for this scholarship. The applications must come directly from the schools – not the students
Two scholarships will be awarded each year, one from a public or private high school in Lackawanna County and one from a public or private high school in Luzerne County for education expenses at a four year college or university.
WHO: High school seniors who wish to pursue a career in Law Enforcement either by majoring in criminal justice or entering the Act 120 municipal police academy.
CRITERIA:
1. The student must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Excellence (GPA)
- Good citizenship.
- Participation in an athletic group within school or community.
- Active member of a faith based or religious organization.
2. Student must submit an essay on how they are an inspirational person based on the
qualities of Gary Lukasiewicz. Gary was an inspirational Riverside High School senior
who exemplified qualities which inspire others to become better people, such as
learning how to overcome a challenge, conquering adversity, and never giving up.
Please include with your application:
- High School transcript
- 2 Separate Letters of Recommendation (not from school officials):
- 1 from from the faith based or religious organization you are an active member of
- 1 from a community or civic group indicating good citizenship
- One page typed essay on how you are an inspirational person based on the qualities of Gary Lukasiewicz. Gary was an inspirational Riverside High School senior who exemplified qualities which inspire others to become better people, such as learning how to overcome a challenge, conquering adversity and never giving up.

Community Foundation of the Endless Mountain - Lakeland School District Scholarships
Fri. Feb 15: Scholarships available online.
Sun. March 24: Application Deadline
Fri. March 29: Deadline for Guidance contact to supply transcript.
April 1 – April 30: Selection Committees Evaluate Applicants.
Mid May: Community Foundation notifies Guidance of recipients, provides certificates
and instruction letters for award ceremony.

Dana Rymer Battenberg Memorial Scholarship- Apply Online using the Above Link:
Established in 1920 by H.A.Willman of Jermyn. Provides a post-secondary scholarship to a high school graduate who, is a student of high moral character who has attended Lakeland School District for at least five years and who will attend college or a post-secondary degree programoutside of Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties and who has achieved the highest Grade Point Average of any students fulfilling the aforementioned criteria. The delegated
selection committee is responsible for selecting the recipient in consultation with The
Community Foundation. Scholarship award for 2019 is $TBA.
Patrick Andrew Luptak Scholarship
Amount: Three Scholarships Awards of $500 - 2 of those awards will be given a graduating senior from any Lackawanna County High School (one award is reserved specifically for North Pocono High School)
Criteria:
The student(s) shall have demonstrated characteristics of:
The student shall have demonstrated the following characteristics:
- An ambitious, caring student in need who is looking to advance their career through some sort of secondary education
- Demonstrates involvement in school activities
- Demonstrates community involvement and service to others
- Active in sports
- A grade point average of “C” or better
- The students must be graduating seniors from a Lackawanna County High School in the year of the award.
- Financial need is not a stated criteria, but may be considered in selecting a candidate for the scholarship.
- Special interests of Science, technology, agriculture or chemistry are not stated criteria, but may be considered in selecting a candidate for the scholarship
- Candidates will be required to complete a scholarship application.

Joseph (Firp) and Charles Pacino Scholarship Award
Deadline: Return Application to LHS Student Services by March 15th
Amount: $1,500
The scholarship will be given to a student selected from among applicants from Lakeland
High School, Mayfield resident.
Each year Lakeland High School will accept applications from qualified graduating senior
students using the following guidelines:
1. The student shall have demonstrated characteristics of:
a. Academic achievement and/or honor student
b. Good Citizenship and service to others
c. Leadership
2. Financial need is not a stated criteria, but may be considered in selecting
a candidate for the scholarship.
Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society
Amount: $4,000 -- Awarded in increments of $1,000 per academic year.
Granted to any graduating senior who wishes to major in an environmental field such as Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental PLanning, Environmental Engineering, Fish - Game - Wildlife Management, Ecology and /or Environmental Science at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Criteria:
- High School Transcript.
- A Personal Essay discussing your goals and career aspirations.
- Two Letters of Recommendation.
Application must be turned into LHS Student Services by April 15th

Corabella Chappell Memorial Scholarship Fund
Amount: TBD
Criteria:
- Applicants must be residents of Lackawanna County.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- Applicants must attend Keystone College in LaPlume, Pa.
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Required Materials:
- Signed Scholarship Award Agreement found in the online application.
- Official transcript
- SAT/Act Scores
- Personal essay - one page explaining why the scholarship is important to the applicant. Include college and career plans. Be sure to include your name and the scholarship name on the page.
- List of academic honors and achievements, leadership skills, community service, etc.
- Completed W-8 or W-9 form
- Copy of Student Aid Report - this is what you receive after completing your FASFA.

Brian Piccolo Award and Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
This award is given to an Italian senior student athlete, male or female, who has exhibited excellence on the athletic field and in the classroom and who has displayed the attributes of Brian Piccolo as shown as hard work, dedication, loyalty, and teamwork. Brian Piccolo was a running back for the Chicago Bears and died of cancer at the age of 26.
Criteria:
- Senior Student Athlete - Male or Female at a Lackawanna County High School.
- At least 1/4 Italian Ethnicity
- Community Service Hours
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Letter of recommendation from teacher or coach detailing the student's accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.
- Student essay - 1 page or less

Melvin-Deininger Scholarship Fund
Amount: TBD
This award shall be paid to the college or university of the recipient’s choice for education expenses at that college or university. When the recipient has education expenses at the college, university or trade school, the recipient should send a copy of an invoice to the Scranton Area Foundation (SAF) and SAF will then issue a check payable to that college, or trade school.
Criteria:
- High School Transcripts
- Graduating from Lackawanna County High School
- Continuing education at a college, university, or trade school that is in PA
- Graduating with B average or better.
- At least one parent that service or is serving in the military and/or one parent who is deceased.
- Financial need
- One-page essay
