This time will be spent going over some initial assessment data, but will mostly be lead by your child. They will be presenting their learning targets so far for the year and together, we will be setting goals for the year and as they progress on to middle school.
If that time doesn't work for you or you have a more preferred time, please let me know. I tried to work in everyone's preferences as best I could. Thank you!

Growth Mindset
Mindset is a simple idea discovered through decades of research on achievement and success—a simple idea that makes all the difference.
In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. They’re wrong.
In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities.
We focus on the belief that all brains can learn.
Daily 5
I won't go into it to much, but Daily 5 is a reading program that allows me to conference with students one-on-one and in small groups to assess their reading strategies. Each day, your child will have a reading strategy goal to work on during Daily 5. They will be filling out their goals on a form through their Google Drive.
While I am meeting with students, they are working on one of several choices on their own. They will do about 3 different choices each day.
1) Read to Self (they silently read to themselves)
2) Read to Someone (they practice fluency by reading to someone)
3) Listen to Reading (they hear models of good speaking by listening to audiobooks)
4) Work on Writing (this is where they work in their writing journals)
5) Spelling/Word Work (opportunities to practice their spelling and vocabulary)
6) FEATS (Fitness, Engineering, Art, Technology, Study) - this is their opportunity to work with our virtual fitness center through resistance bands, agility ladders, and more. They may also try an engineering building task, work on artwork, learn through technology choices, or take extra time to study
