Friday, February 26, 2021
Message from the Principal:
This week's newsletter contains a number of interesting videos we would like to share with you. Everything from student work samples from classes, to a student-led interview with a famous musician, to a compellation of student submissions to help celebrate Black History Month, it is here for you to enjoy. Please take the time to watch each!
Woodbury High School also received a very generous donation from the Road Runners Club of Woodbury that will go towards two scholarships for graduating seniors. Those details are listed below.
Course selection for Junior High students is happening. Please be sure to look at the schedule below and contact Ms. Velazquez, the counselor, if you, as the parent, have any questions at all. She would be happy to walk you through the process!
Finally, remember to get those Drama Club auditions into Ms. Blake the director; you don't want to miss out.
Have a great weekend!
In partnership,

RRCW Scholarships
Thanks to the foresight and perseverance of former RRCW Executive Director John Carter, and the guidance and direction of former RRCW President Terry Dennen, along with the generosity of the Road Runners Club of Woodbury, the club was able to provide a gift in the amount of $43,000.00 which will be used to create two sponsorships for deserving students who will be graduating from the Woodbury City Public School District. The Road Runners Club of Woodbury, Browning Ross Memorial Scholarship, and George Benjamin Jr. Memorial Scholarship will provide two scholarship awards of $750.00 dollars annually to two deserving students and this gift will continue in perpetuity.

English 9 with Mrs. Ford
Students in Mrs. Ford’s English 9 classes are currently studying our country’s history in order to set the context for our class novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Students most recently had to choose a person or group who had a positive impact on the Civil Rights Movement. They researched this person or group and developed a multi-page essay explaining the contributions made. Some topics included Ruby Bridges, Martin Luther King, The Selma March, John Lewis, Malcolm X, and Fannie Lou Hamer. In addition to the research process, the students focused on the essential writing skills of essay structure, MLA formatting, and development of a Works Cited page. The finished products are both meaningful and enlightening.
Crossnet in PE Classes
We recently began a new activity in PE classes. The game is called crossnet and is a combination of volleyball and 4 square. Normally at this time of year, we have the volleyball nets up for our volleyball unit, but we had to get creative this year. This game design really helps with social distancing. This picture is from the 2nd period group, is super competitive, and has brought a bit of normalcy back to our gym classes.
Black History Month Contributions
Throughout the month of February students were asked to choose a career they are interested in (H.S.) or a career related to a specific subject area (J.H) and research an African American/Black person from the past or present and submit a slide about them. Please click the link below to see their contributions.

Mrs. James' Life Skills Class
Students in Regina James' class recently made pizzas. This was such an enjoyable activity for our students and their families. All About the Crust pizzeria located in Woodbury generously donated the pizza kits. The kits included all the supplies needed to make a large plain pie. Some students even added toppings before cooking their pizza pie. This integrated group allowed students to use various skills from fine motor to valuable life skills. Projects are fun, especially when you can eat the finished product!
