ENHS Registration Process:
Thank you ENHS parents for being part of the extremely important decision of selecting your student’s courses for next year. I value your input in making the best decision for your child with the variables presented. The academic counselors met with students during their English courses to develop a 4-year plan and to discuss curricular offerings for the next year.
Selected teachers had the opportunity to provide input in the process as well for placement purposes to ensure that we were deliberate and thoughtful on our recommendations for parents to discuss with their child and eventually, the parents could look at the proposed schedule and discuss with a counselor or send their student to the counseling center to talk with his/her counselor so that the school can begin building next year’s master schedule.
We believe that we are almost done with next year’s 12th, 11th and 10th grade schedules and have turned our collective attention to next year’s 9th graders. We still have time to discuss course sequence and 4-year plans with parents and students, so I don’t want to send the message that a hard deadline exists for your student’s schedule for next year but we should be in conversation as I begin building course offering sections for the 23-24 school year. We will still look at April testing results, May MAP scores and 2nd semester final grades to determine placement students enrolled in support classes.
Please note: All signed registration forms and summer school contracts for PE and Personal Finance are past due. For parents of incoming freshmen, summer PE/Health and personal finance course contracts are due to the middle school on March 9.
ACT for Juniors is April 4, at ENHS—Prepare by Practice:
College placement tests: ACT and SAT are two standardized tests that colleges and universities use to select and sort students for scholarships and admissions. The admission officers analyze course rigor, grade point average, class rank and involvement with co and extracurricular activities and clubs and the ACT score. There is a direct correlation between academic rigor and higher achievement scores on the ACT.
In fact, ENHS students who take AP level course work, chemistry and physics, four years of math have scored 4 or more points higher than students who take the college prep course work. It is better to have a transcript that illustrates rigor than to take classes that are less difficult to inflate the grade point averages. Grade point averages have variables that universities cannot control; different grading scales among school districts, class rank for a graduating class of 38 compared to 305 or even 520 students. AP courses must be approved by a national standard; therefore, admission officers tend to default to course rigor by means of AP coursework and the ACT/SAT scores.
Historically, a large majority of EPS juniors take the ACT for the first time in April and retakes the assessment the fall of their senior year before admissions and scholarships are due in January. Please encourage your student to practice taking the ACT before the April test so he/she feels comfortable taking close to a four-hour exam. Practice tests are online at the ACT website and ACT resources and CD are sold at bookstores in the reference sections.
Education Quest has a detailed list of ACT/SAT test prep classes and websites.

Students registered for AP Exams in the fall. They will be given information in April regarding the location of the exam they are taking. The dates and times of exams can be found at the following link: 2023 AP Test Dates
9th and 10th grade ACT practice test is April 4:
Our 9th and 10th graders will be engaged in the PreACT test the same day the 11th graders are taking the ACT. We will have a schedule that reflects the testing day environment. Students will be dismissed after testing around 12:30. Juniors will be dismissed later because they will finish with the writing section of the ACT.
Winter and Spring Activities 2023:
The winter activities are almost over; the spring activities are beginning to emerge. Spring practices are happening inside and outside the building from 6:00 am-7:30 am and from 3:30- 9:30pm. We are sharing the space provided for our teams and making the best use of our time. Around the school, spring activities are beginning their first week of practices. Thank you to all of our students, coaches, sponsors, parents and fans for your support and interests in our programs. Our girls’ basketball team competes for their 3rd consecutive state championship on Saturday at 1:00. Our team handles the pressure of being returning state champions with maturity and class. I am really proud of ALL of the coaches and athletes representing our school. The staff at ENHS appreciates your help in creating a positive environment with our students. I look forward to seeing you at the various upcoming spring activities.
Mental Wellness and Phone Numbers:
Please know that we are thinking about your student and the transitions that occur in high school that may present as challenges to your student. Continue to ask questions and be a good listener when you are communicating with your student. When your student is struggling, unsure, anxious or feeling overwhelmed, being fully present and asking questions that can guide your decision making will help you in your next steps.
Here are some tips for talking with your child:
Be honest * Be concise * Be reassuring * Normalize his or her feelings
Remember the four T’s (talk, touch, tears and time)

Student absences & appointments ~
Please notify the office via telephone (402.289.0322) of any absences and/or appointments for your student(s). If your student will be leaving during the school day, the sooner you communicate that to the office, the easier it will be to get a pass to your student, rather than having to call the classroom and interrupt valuable learning time.
If your student is absent for a doctor, dental or counseling appointment, please have your student bring a note from the provider to bring back to school. We will keep that on file for attendance purposes.
Parents are not required to come into the building to get their student. The office staff will verify the student has been called out, and the student will sign themselves out on the computer in the office and they will meet you at your car or drive themselves to where they need to go.
Thank you so much for your cooperation with this.

Online Safety for Parents, Guardians, and the Community from Project Harmony
We will be offering the course multiple times over the next few months, including evening and zoom sessions. This course is FREE to the public due to the generosity of a benefactor.
Description: This course helps adults identify and address the safety concerns that come when we provide our children and teens online access. The focus is on equipping adults to have conversations with their children and teens to establish structure and routines that focus on safety. This training presents resources created by the National Center for Missing and Endangered Children. We highly recommend some of the supports NCMEC can provide to families when or if their child shares too much information online. This course is suitable for anyone who cares for or works with young people.
