Week of Jan 17 thru 21
Martin Luther King Jr. Day- January 17
As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday, January 17, to celebrate MLK Day. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Perseverance
Next week we will focus on Perseverance in our P2 Classes. The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one’s active pursuit in overcoming obstacles. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. Those who persevere are able to set goals for themselves and then take active, calculated steps toward those goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance are able to handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.
Please watch the video clip with your family and then discuss the three questions below:
1.When is a time in your life that you showed perseverance? What helped push you toward your goal?
2. How are the character strengths of perseverance and bravery often connected?
3. How can language affect you when you try to persevere?
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl,
but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
-MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
Family Meeting Celebration
At Family Meeting on Wednesday the seventh graders came away with The Golden Lance! The Class of 2027 is doing a fantastic job of demonstrating our motto of: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Each Other, and Take Care of this Place through their words and actions. Keep it up!
Virtual Spelling Bee
On January 11th, four spellers competed in our annual Lakeshore Middle School Spelling Bee. The bee went six rounds with first place going to seventh grader, Niyati Pagda, and second place going to eighth grader, Maahish Kumar. A two round spell-off was held to determine third and fourth places and sixth grader, Poisha Bhardwaj, finished in third place and seventh grader, Akshar Shetty, finished in fourth place. Niyati, Maahish, and Poisha will represent Lakeshore Middle School at the Cloverleaf Spelling Bee at Lake Michigan College on February 24th. Congratulation to all four of our spellers! Good luck next month!
Congratulations Niyati, Maahish, Poisha, and Akshar!
Winter Gear is Needed
Our elementary schools are always accepting donation of winter gear-- especially snow pants! They have a lot of smaller sizes stored and waiting for students who need them, but right now there is a need for larger sized snow pants. If you have winter gear your child has outgrown, please consider donating it to one of our elementary schools. If you have any questions, please reach out to the principal at your home elementary school.
