A Week in Kindergarten
A glance into Mrs. Agresta's class
Close Reading - What is it??
Close reading is a three step reading strategy which requires students to get truly involved with the text they are reading. It encourages the students to make connections while they read.
Step 1
Reading and re-reading a text to gather meaning and determine the author's purpose.
Step 2
Based on our classroom chart, the children use different colored crayons to underline the text. The different colors shows a different connection the child has to that specific part of the text. We all then meet on the carpet, and the children share the connections they made while reading.
Step 3
Providing evidence and support from the text, the children then answer comprehension questions.
A Close Reading with Science
We practiced our close reading skills with a book about the wedge titled Cut, Stop and Chop.
Reading Buddies
We first read the book with our 2nd grade reading buddies!
Making the Marks
The students then went back to the text and 'made their marks' to show their connections to the text.
Explanation
The children then went back and explained the connections they made to the book.
