NEWS FROM THE CORRAL
November 14, 2015
Good Afternoon Pony Parents,
As I write this newsletter, I am reminded of the phenomenal service we experienced last week honoring our Veterans. It's very easy to gather together in a building and say 'thank you' to those in our armed services and then continue with our own lives. After the events of Friday in France, it truly brings their importance to the forefront. How many of us watched the video and listened to the media reports as the events unfolded and at the same time in our hearts felt blessed that we have men and women willing to sacrifice all for our liberty? For me sleep didn't come as easily Friday night. There was worry for our country and concern for those prepared to protect me. I found a quote from John F. Kennedy which I included in my Saluting America's Heroes edition and it is worth repeating again: "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty." President John F. Kennedy
Have a blessed week,
Linda Young, Principal

STEM students spent the weekend of November 4-6 showcasing their talents at Barnes and Noble in Town Center. It was a busy weekend and helped serve as a fundraiser by our STEM Booster Club. Thank you to our STEM staff, students, and parents who participated. I visited the students "at work" and they were having a great time sharing their knowledge.
Saturday, November 14, our STEM families gathered for a picnic in Pickering Park. Pics are available on the STEM Facebook and we will have them for the newsletter next week.

Choir Booster Club
The GMS Choir Booster Club is hoping to clean up with their BRAX SpiritCups and Soapbox fundraisers that started Tuesday, November 10. In addition to selling BRAX's popular SpiritCups and SpiritTravelCups, the recently organized booster club is the first in North Texas to sign up for the unique soapbox program that not only raises funds for the choir, but also donates one bar of the French-milled soap to a shelter or food bank for every bar sold. This year's recipient is The Gatehouse living community in Grapevine where women and children in crisis receive safe refuge, ample time, practical resources and healthy relationships to discover new paths for permanent change.
Money raised from the programs, which run through November 20, is earmarked for the booster club's community relations and student recognition programs including festivals, concerts and awards.
Please contact the GMS Choir Booster Club for further details via email.
Our GMS Theater Department, led by Nichole Goodsell, held their first performance of the year on Friday. The morning performance was attended by the 3rd graders of Silver Lake Elementary. The evening dinner theater was also a tremendous success and students in both productions were incredible. Thank you to the GMS Theater Booster Club for supporting the melodrama through ticket sales and behind the scenes work.
Ms. Goodsell has developed a talented cast and we can't wait to see what they deliver next!
GMS Robotics Team
Saturday our GMS Robotics Team attended their first scrimmage. They were up early in the morning and worked hard all day. We look forward to watching them participate successfully in upcoming meets. Thank you to sponsor Shon Slatton for preparing our robotics teams!

Student Attendance at After School Events
Once students enter into the gym for basketball we do not allow them to leave and re-enter. Safety of students is our first priority. We want you to feel comfortable leaving your child with us at these events knowing they are in the presence of school officials. Should your child go against our request and leave the activity you will need to pick them up immediately. We do not want students lingering in areas without supervision. Should you have questions, please let me know.
Remember yearbooks are available for purchase. You may go to
https://yearbookforever.com/# and place your order by January 20, 2016. Order forms are also available in the office.
GCISD has formed a Facility Innovation and Readiness Stakeholder Team (FIRST) to study and prioritize ways to create the best possible learning environment for GCISD students. This Team meets every other Tuesday and all minutes and updates are uploaded on their webpage.
