Teacher of the Month: Ms. Kindra Yount (Art)
Ms. Yount is always so calm and kind. She is super cool and creative, of course! The students love going to Art in her class and I look forward to what they get to create. She is very patient and kind. She is a very positive, encouraging, and creative teacher. Ms. Yount has the heart of every child that enters her class. Her classroom is inviting, and students are eager to see her every week. Going to Art class is an adventure. Students learn about art styles and artist from around the world. Ms. Yount is a natural.
Staff of the Month: Ms. Karen Kennedy (SLP)
Karen is amazing, we already knew that! She has such a nurturing nature towards students and staff alike. Karen is always happy to help in any way - even if it's not technically in her job. I love how caring she is about her speech students. She makes such an effort to connect with them. She is eager to celebrate them and share their accomplishments with all. I love watching her in meetings with parents. She goes out of her way to make each child feel "seen". In addition, she brings a positive presence to our work environment. She always has a smile on her face and is dedicated to her kids.
Bus Driver of Month: Mr. Tom Cernilli (White Polar Bear)
Mr. Tom is very dependable, kind but stern with students when needed. Mr. Tom ALWAYS has a smile and greets my kids using their names. He is genuinely happy and that makes kids morning ride so easy. Mr. Tom makes the bus a stress-free environment for kids. They ONLY say they love the bus! And that’s all thanks to Mr. Tom! An amazing person and very responsible. Never a day does he come without a smile or a “have a great day” comment before he drives off. Truly a wonderful human! Tom is always on time, always making sure my kids are safe, and always sporting fun UGA attire! My kids really lucked out getting him as their first bus driver.
Sub of the Month: Ms. Karen Tostenson
What can't Ms. T. do?!?! Ms. T. has helped out in every aspect this year. She's covered in all grade levels and varying positions. She helps run the front desk as though she's been doing it for years. She even volunteered to attend the district clinic assistant training so that she can cover for Ms. Crenshaw when she is out. Ms. T. is a wealth of talents and skills, and she is an integral part of our Bobcat family staff!
December 6--Remote Learning Day
Tuesday, December 6, is a remote learning day for all FCS students due to Election Day. The building will be closed.
Attached to this email you will find a document with all of the remote learning details for our grade level.
Plan to spend 20-30 minutes on each subject area:
- Reading
- Math
- Specials
For reading and math, we are excited to offer digital learning opportunities for our bobcats via Nearpod. All Nearpod lessons are aligned to what your student is working on in class this week and can be completed independently. If you’ve never used Nearpod before, no worries! It’s easy to access and very kid-friendly.
How to Access Nearpod:

PTA PULSE
PTA donations through membership and events help our school in many ways. Here is an example of that in action. Our PTA funds the purchase of PebbleGo a safe and age-appropriate research application for our students to start experiencing how to conduct research of interesting topics. Your membership contributes to building literacy and cultivating peer collaboration! We couldn't be THE SBCE without you.
Spelling Bee Buzz!
SBCE was abuzz with some incredibly talented spellers at our annual school spelling bee on December 1! Congratulations to our school spelling bee winner, Lucas Coughlin, and our runner-up, Yuna Cheong! LUcas will go on the represent SBCE at the Fulton County Spelling Bee in January. Best of luck, Lucas! Your SBCE Bobcats will be rooting for you.
