Veterans Holiday Blanket Drive
It is time for another Veterans Holiday Blanket Drive to provide our Veterans at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky and Wade Park in Cleveland with a new blanket to keep them warm. If you would like to donate, forward a new twin or fleece lap blanket to Custodian Mark Brandt at Learwood Middle school. The blankets can be dropped off at Learwood’s main office. If you would like to wrap them, then that would be awesome but our elves will do that if you choose not to. All donations should be in by December 13. Thank you so much for your donations to our Veterans over the years we have been doing this.

Veterans Day
Learwood has had a long-standing tradition of honoring our Veterans. It has been a great program and is appreciated by our students, staff, parents, community members, and most importantly, the Veterans (including Learwood's own Mr. Mark Brandt, Mrs. Sarah Lee, and Mr. Scott Peepers). This year we will be holding our recognition on Monday, November 11th. We have several students whose parents have or are currently serving in the armed forces, including some who are currently deployed. Veterans Day is not a holiday, it is a time for remembrance. Remembrance of our freedoms, our past, and the sacrifices of those who chose our country over their own lives. This year, our guest speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Capretto, USAF, Retired . We ask that students wear Red, White, and Blue clothing on Monday, November 11th.
If you or a family member are a Veteran and would like to join us for the breakfast and assembly, please RSVP to Mrs. Staley (440-933-8142) by Wednesday November 5th.

Election Day
If Learwood Middle School is your voting site, you will need to enter through the MPR, we cannot allow you to enter through the main entrance and then walk to the MPR.
If you are dropping your child off to school that day, please leave earlier than normal, because you will encounter additional traffic. Also be aware that others are not familiar with our traffic pattern and may try to create a shortcut to leave.
Boy's Basketball Tryout Information
Learwood boys basketball tryouts are next week. Please make sure all paperwork is turned in prior to the first day of tryouts. Everything can be dropped off in the main office. An up-to-date physical MUST be on file in the office. There are no exceptions to this rule – if there is not a physical on file the athlete cannot participate.
Information can be found here: https://avonlakesports.com/2019/10/08/learwood-winter-sports-information/
Tryouts numbers will be posted outside the office on Wednesday Oct. 30th. They should wear a light colored shirt with their tryout number big on the back and front of the shirt (use tape or paint). If your athlete is not on the list then they will need to come to the Green Room (next to the library) during their support to sign up.
