You Art Cooperative (YAC)
This year, Ms. Angela Mosley organized a community event You Art Cooperative which allowed for various modes of sharing the communities views on Feminism vs. Womanism. Among those presenting were Suha Said and Ala Mohamed (WHS students & SSIKED members) as well as Ms. Maria Martin (WHS Academic Dean & SSIKED Advisor).
Suha produced and edited a video where she interviewed several staff and students on the topic of focus (Feminism vs. Womanism).
Ala recited/performed her original spoken word poetry, also on the topic.
Maria participated as part of a panel answering questions from a facilitator & the audience.

April 29th - Academic Recognition Program
Since 2009 SSIKE (now SSIKED) has hosted an academic recognition program during 3rd trimester. During this program SSIKED presents certificates of recognition to students that improve their trimester-to-trimester GPA by at least .25 while earning a minimum of a 2.50 GPA during 2nd trimester; and certificates of recognition for 9th-12th grade students that have earned a cumulative Honors-level GPA (3.50 or higher). 142 students underrepresented students qualified for recognition this year.
Other highlights of the evening included our Keynote speaker, Chad Simmons. Chad is the CEO & President of Diversity Focus in Cedar Rapids; and the presentation of the annual $500 SSIKED scholarship recipient-Hiba Ibrahim.
