Eating disorders are real medical conditions. They need to be professional treatment to get better. About 30 million Americans have a eating disorder. The research for eating disorders is still underfunded, even with this high of a percent of Americans that have one. This is a real problem in our country.

Some signs someone has a eating disorder are obsession with calories, excessive weight loss, lack of communication, visible food restriction, someone is skipping meals, etc.

Eating disorders cases have been increasing since 1950.
Since 1930 there has been more anorexia in women 15 to 19.
From 1988 to 1993 the number of bulimia cases in women 10 to 39 tripled.
About 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a eating disorder.
40-60% of elementary school girls, from the ages 6 to 12, are concerned about their weight.
Alcohol and substance abuse is 4 times more common in people with eating disorders.
