Shaping Hearts and Minds in the Service of Christ 8/3/2021
Hello August!
This year we welcome four new teachers to our ranks; Mrs. Betty Miclay, Mrs. Kathleen Warriner, Ms. Lauren Joines and Ms. Jordan Trenkamp.
Mrs. Betty Miclay will be joining our team as an interventionist as well as help us out during recess and lunch time. Mrs. Miclay taught for 17 years in the Waverly school district before joining our St. Mary family this year. She is a mother of 2 and grandmother of 2. Mrs. Miclay is excited to support the students of St. Mary School.
Mrs. Kathleen Warriner comes to St. Mary School with a Bachelor of Music Education from Central Michigan University and a Master of Music Education from Western Michigan University. Mrs. Warriner will be teaching our general music and technology classes. She has spent over 15 years teaching band, choir and elementary music for Marshall, Tekonsha and Charlotte Public Schools. She has even performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, New York City!
Ms. Lauren Joines is excited to join the St. Mary community as our 3rd grade teacher! She graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a generalist endorsement from the University of Dayton this past May. Ms. Joines is currently enrolled in UD’s Lalanne program pursuing a masters. Ms. Joines' family has moved around in the past but is in Peachtree City, Georgia now. She cannot wait for the school year to begin and to learn and grow with the entire St. Mary school community!
Ms. Jordan Trenkamp is also excited to be joining the St. Mary's community! She received her B.S. in Middle Childhood Education/Intervention Specialist from the University of Dayton. Ms. Trenkamp is ready to get the year started with her 6th grade students! Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her family and being outside. She looks forward to meeting you all soon!
Make sure to read next week's newsletter to welcome two new staff members who will be supporting the Early Learning Center as well as the school!
COVID Questions
One of the big questions I have received this summer was in reference to masking in the year ahead. As we know the State of Michigan dropped the mask mandate prior to July 1. I have reviewed guidance from the CDC, AAP, MDHHS and the recommendation from our Diocese.
After much prayer, guidance, and review of the data, we have decided that moving into the next academic school year, masking will be the choice of each family. At this time, as an overarching school policy, we will not have a mask policy dictating who needs to be masked. However, we will partner with each of our families to support their individual choice. If your family would like to wear a mask, we invite you to send your child to school in their mask. If your family would not like to wear a mask, we invite you to send your child to school mask free.
Although this is how we will begin the year, if at any point in time a new mandate is pushed out from Eaton County or the State, we will abide by those mandates, just as we did last year.
Additionally, we will continue with many of the safety protocols that we put in place that are good health practices, such as washing hands frequently, taking time to clean the desks at the end of the day or when switching classes, and continuing with the ventilation of our air in the classrooms.
Please note, I'm still working with Eaton County on how to proceed with school related COVID-19 illness as we begin the new year, so please look for an updates in following newsletters.

Please remember that the plaid for our school can only be purchased through Lands End or Educational Outfitters. The picture to the right is an example of what our plaid looks like for our young ladies.

We also have a volunteer sign up link. We are in need of many volunteers for this years events. We would love to have our Dad's volunteer to support the Purse Bingo event on Friday August 20, 2021 so the Mom's can win some Designer Purses. There are also slots for our older students or Lansing Catholic Students to volunteer so please check those out as well. Thank you in advance for your spirit of stewardship as we all work together to have a wonderful weekend of fun and fellowship!
