Baseball
Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team has been very successful the past few weeks. There are many games the team must play, but the past two games are the ones highlighted. On March 20th at 4:30 pm at Thomas Jefferson, Piedmont lost 1-0. Coach Tanner, the head coach, commented that Tate Marks pitched the entire game, and he pitched very well. Coach Tanner believes the team could not produce any offense, and that is the reason for their loss. On March 23rd at 4:30 at home, Piedmont played Monsignor Donovan. The game only lasted for three innings because the Cougars run-ruled Monsignor Donovan 15-0. Clayton Carter and Clay Jones pitched the game. After the game, Coach Tanner said, “We were able to get some offense going and take care of the game. We will continue to get better and hopefully play our best baseball when the playoffs come around.” Good luck in the playoffs and for the rest of the season to the Piedmont varsity baseball team!

8th Grade Field Trip
On March 15, Piedmont Academy’s 8th-grade class was taken to
Shakespeare Tavern to see A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Mrs. Peden, the 8th grade English teacher, took the entire 8th-grade class to Shakespeare Tavern in Midtown Atlanta and they all enjoyed it.

Soccer
The most recent varsity soccer game was a little less successful. Their most recent game was on March 27th against Westminister. The varsity boys' game was ended by the mercy rule in the second half with eight minutes remaining. The Piedmont boys did end up scoring a goal, but it was, unfortunately, the other team's goal. Their game ended with a score of 12-0. The varsity girls team didn't have a very lucky game either. They lost against Westminister with a score of 4-0.

Devotion
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her. John 20:17-18
March 30th is Good Friday, and April 1st is Easter. Because of these miraculous days, John 20:17-18 are applicable verses to this season. On a Friday, Jesus was beaten and tortured with a painful whip. After this, He was drug through the streets onto Calvary where He was hung on a wooden cross. Jesus’ feet and hands were nailed to the cross, and He was wearing a crown of thorns. He was put into a tomb as his final resting place. Everyone, including Jesus’ mother, Mary, believed Jesus was dead, but three days later, Jesus rose from the dead and was alive.
Easter is so important because it is vital for us to know Jesus was alive 2,000 years ago after He was crucified, and He is alive now, too! Jesus is incredible for many reasons, but mainly because He allowed Himself to be killed in order to save the lives of all of God’s children, you and me. This was the most brutal death any human could have ever endured, and Jesus did it for us! This Easter season is yet another example of how special we are to Jesus and how much He loves us. Because of Good Friday and Easter, we will live eternity with our Creator. Thank You, Jesus, for Your sacrifice!

Easter
Easter is known as the celebration of Jesus’s resurrection from the dead, but why are bunnies and eggs symbols of Easter, and why is Easter called “Easter?” Easter bunnies are a popular symbol during Easter because they typically represent new life and fertility because of their high reproduction rate, and spring is the time for new life. It is said that eggs are used to symbolize the tomb from which Jesus rose from, but there are other ideas about why we use eggs to celebrate Easter. One possible reason why eggs represent Easter is that during Lent, eggs used to be forbidden to eat, so instead of eating them, they would save them and decorate them as gifts for children.
Eggs are also used to represent new life in pagan traditions. Even though Easter is typically a religious holiday, it was also a pagan tradition used to celebrate the vernal equinox (when the sun shines directly on the equator). Pagans named their holiday Ostara after the Old English goddess of fertility and rebirth, Ēostre. This name was eventually adopted by Christians and is now known as Easter and is celebrated all over the world because of the resurrection of Jesus and because of the new life in spring.
