Toys at School

As a reminder, toys are not allowed at school. If a student brings a toy to school for use in an after-school program, it must stay in their backpack. Toys will be confiscated if they are being played with during school hours.

Sometimes teachers will have a special day where toys, games, and//or stuffed animals are allowed for the day. When this happens, students will be reminded that they may only be in the classroom and may not be played with during recess and lunch.

Students may bring sports equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, etc.) only if they intend for it to be used by any student who would like to play with it.

Fidgets (i.e. pop-its) may be used in the classroom for their intended purpose (as a tool to help students remain focused or to ease anxiety). They will not be able to be used if they become a distraction and they may not make their way out onto the playground, as they then become a toy.

We have some students who are interested in things like making bracelets or playing with yo-yos. In these cases, we will strive to provide designated time in our Wellness Room or another designated area where students can participate in these activities with adult supervision.

Thank you for your support of this school policy.

Parent Volunteer Opportunity

The Sacramento Valley Scholastic Chess League director Steven Oberlander is a teacher at Neal Dow Elementary School. The league is hoping to have Chess Clubs in all CUSD schools. In order to bring this opportunity to Hooker Oak, we need a volunteer Chess Coach to help facilitate our program. Mr. Oberlander will assist with all of the logistics and there will be start-up materials available.

Please contact the office or email Principal Emily Mullins if you are interested in volunteering to coach our Chess Club. The club could meet before or after school.

Sprouty Store Wishlist

The Sprouty Store was a huge success last year, and we need donations for the new school year! The Sprouty store is a monthly student store that is available for 1st-5th grade students. Throughout the school year students earn Sproutys, Hooker Oak's school money, and they can spend them at the store. The Sprouty Store is able to happen from parent donations. You can check out our Amazon wish list, which gets directly sent to Hooker Oak, or if you spot something you think students will enjoy you can drop it off at the office. We appreciate all donations to the Sprouty Store!
