Counseling Puts Vision Loss into Perspective
When life throws an unexpected curve, such as a diagnosis of permanent vision loss, common reactions to the adjustment are often difficult to understand. Moods can change on a dime, thoughts at times can seem irrational, nerves jangled. These reactions are natural yet can be overwhelming and tough to manage sometimes. For some, this adjustment can have an adverse effect on relationships, job performance, or motivation to carry out a daily routine. It often helps to process these experiences with someone, especially a professional, who will genuinely listen and validate what's going on.
Counseling will certainly not bring vision loss back, but the process introduces more effective strategies for coping, combatting challenges and handling personal interactions. Removing mental roadblocks often serve as a catalyst for moving forward and regaining a positive perspective for a more healthy adjustment.
