6th Grade News

Mr. Ellis- Assistant Principal

Dear sixth grade parents and/or guardians,

My name is Wesley P. Ellis, and I will be joining Kelly Miller this school year as the sixth grade Assistant Principal. I am a God-fearing man, a devoted husband, and a loving father as well as a dedicated educator. I am passionate about the work of awakening the natural genius in all children and restoring the historical memory of black and brown children. Children of African descent must learn and walk in the confidence of knowing that they come from scholars, inventors, mathematicians, kings, queens, and warriors. As a leader, I believe that what matters most is honoring people and making sure they feel heard, respected, valued, and empowered to do what is best for students. I am excited to join the Kelly Miller family this year, and I am looking forward to a year of tremendous growth and achievement.

With Lion Pride,

Wesley Ellis

8th Grade News

Ms. Lewis' Welcome Message

Dear 8th Grade Parents and/or Guardians,

On behalf of the 8th grade team, it is my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you and your scholar as we prepare for the 2021-2022 school year. My name is Louise Lewis and I am the 8th grade Assistant Principal. This is my seventeenth year in the field of education, with sixteen of those years spent in DC Public Schools. I received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Trinity University. My experience includes being a middle school teacher, instructional coach, mathematics instructional specialist, curriculum writer, and inclusion support specialist.

As we begin this year, we face new academic challenges. At Kelly Miller, we believe in “the use of rigorous instruction that empowers students to use learning in authentic ways” whether that is done through remote or in-person learning. In both platforms, our teachers and staff will work to build relationships and help students achieve academic success. As the assistant principal, I will work to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the potential of each student, and realize we are not just preparing them for the next grade, but for the future. This preparation will include experiences that are challenging, relevant, and meet the needs of the individual student.

I believe in open communication and a strong home to school connection. Please feel free to contact me via telephone at 202.499.0519 and email at louise.lewis3@k12.dc.gov with questions, concerns, or celebrations. I look forward to working with you and your student this school year to ensure a successful 8th grade experience for all!
