Showing Spartan Pride to End Great Week!
We concluded our third week of school on a positive note with our first Spartan Spirit Day of the school year! Students, faculty, and staff sported their Springton colors and shared what they are enjoying about the school year thus far. I continue to be extremely pleased with the effort and serious approach to learning that I am seeing from our students. Our teachers are also working incredibly hard to plan engaging lessons and to build relationships with their new students. Overall, things are going extremely well and I could not be more proud of the work that I am seeing. Be sure to check out the spirit photos that I have posted to Twitter - and while you're at it, give us a follow @SpringtonLakeMS. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
School Reopening Webinar
Parents and families are invited to attend a School Reopening webinar sponsored by the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. The webinar will be held via Zoom on Monday, September 21st from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. A similar presentation was held this week for school personnel and it was extremely informative. The link to attend will be provided once you register.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Virtual Back-to-School Night this week. While the format was different - and I personally missed being able to welcome you all to our school - the feedback that we received from so many people was very positive. In the event that you were not able to join us, our teachers have each provided a recorded version of their presentation. Visit our presentation archive to view any presentation that you missed.
Upcoming Calendar Notes
Our teachers continue to sharpen their skills to deliver virtual instruction and they are working to get ready for the start of hybrid teaching. In an effort to provide our teachers with necessary training and collaboration time, the Rose Tree Media School District has implemented the following calendar change for this week.
Wednesday, September 23rd - NO School
Students may use time on Wednesday to ensure that they are current with their work AND may choose to take a break from the screen.
Also, there is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, September 28th in observance of Yom Kippur.
Library Books Available
Even while students work and learn from home, our Library is happy to provide contactless pick-up and drop-off of books for our students. We want our students to be reading and we want them to have easy access to the books that they would like to enjoy. Mrs. Ekstrom has created a short presentation that explains how students can search our catalog and arrange to borrow a book. Encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity!
Live School & Spartan Bucks
All families should have received a letter in the mail this week with instructions for how to access Live School. We use Live School as the "bank account" for students and parents to track Spartan Bucks. Teachers are able to award Spartan Bucks to reinforce desired behavior and to recognize students for demonstrating the 4Rs - Ready, Respectful, Responsible, & Resilient. While the password sheet includes a spot for parent signature and indicates that the sheet should be returned to school, we are NOT collecting the forms.
REMINDER - Back-to-School Forms & Electronic Acknowledgement
We are still in need of outstanding Student Emergency Cards. You may drop off your signed emergency card to the Main Office or you may mail it to us. ALSO - We have also created a quick, electronic process to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement and the technology forms, if you still need to do so. Please help our wonderful clerical staff by taking two minutes to complete this process as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE - EVERYONE needs to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement.
Grab-and-Go Breakfast & Lunch Available
Even while students are learning virtually, our Food Services Department will be making breakfast and lunch available to interested students and families. Meals are being distributed from Penncrest High School and Media Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Specific details are posted on the Rose Tree Media School District Website.
As you know, this year we are using Zoom as our primary platform for video conferencing with students. We are working to make the environment as safe and secure as possible. One step that we implemented this week was a standard naming configuration for students when they enter Zoom sessions. The name mirrors each student's email convention - graduation year, first name, last name. This will help to ensure that only verified students are admitted to Zoom classrooms. I also continue to address with students our desire for them to have their video on during class. This is important so that teachers are able to see engagement, determine when a student may need more help, and to support the development of relationships within the classroom. While I have stopped short of mandating video (for now), it is a strong recommendation. Please speak with your child about this and encourage VIDEO ON as much as possible.
