A Message from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Families,
Fall is here and learning is in full swing! It also means it is conference time. If you have not already signed up for a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher to sign up for a time. This is an important time for connection and partnership around your child’s educational experience.
As you know social/emotional learning and building relationships is an important part of the work we do at Glen Grove. The curriculum we utilize is called Second Step. This month all of our grade levels have been focusing on growth mindset and goal setting. Make sure to ask your child about what they are learning during Second Step.
We are very excited for our first assembly of the year on October 6th. Danzas Ceremoniales de Mexico will dance for our students. They will present pre-Hispanic traditions of central Mexico through dance. They will also explore how we are all connected through the arts, food, language, and people. Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring the important event!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

*Please note that, due to supply chain issues, all items are subject to change without notice.
The Food Services department is experiencing unprecedented staff shortages. To continue to provide meals to students in this environment, we may need to adjust to a limited menu, removing the hot entree option. This change may happen on any given day, at one or multiple schools. We will provide information to families at a particular school if this does happen, though communication may occur on short notice.
We appreciate your understanding!
From the Nurse's Office
If you need any help or support during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.
All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.
If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m., please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.

Hi! I'm Jill Burns, the Science Instructional Specialist here at Glen Grove. I hope to be able to provide fun science updates for you periodically. Here is what's been happening around school in science:
Young budding chemists have been exploring physical and chemical properties in 5th grade. They've been practicing their observation making, direction following, and safety skills in various chemistry experiments. We are moving on to chemical reactions, and using evidence to determine if chemical changes have occurred. It's been exciting to see them working together in so many different hands on activities. More to come with this unit!
Our 4th grade Earth scientists have been actively looking at how different natural forces shape and change our landscape. I think it's safe to say that each 4th grade classroom has been sprinkled with a fine coating of sand as we look at how wind, water, and ice erosion can move sediments and change Earth's surface. We've all wrapped up our stream table outdoor lab, and have moved on to exploring how Illinois has been affected by all of these types of erosion over time. Soon we will shift our focus a little closer to home with a final assignment focused on erosion in Chicago, so stay tuned!
3rd grade is getting the ball rolling (no pun intended...or is it?) with science this week and next, looking at forces and motion. More to come!

Dear District 34 Families,
Please join us on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00pm (new date, changed from 9/28) in the Springman Wildcat Commons for “Empower Parents for Today’s World,” our first in-person D34 ParentConnect program since March 2020! You’ll leave with actions that you can put into place immediately to make a difference for you and your child.
