Workshop Description

This workshop is designed for practitioners with an experiential background in IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy). It assumes the participant has completed Level One Training through the IFS Institute, or has attended a previous 20 hour IFS Experiential Intro taught by the presenters (Bruce & Lois).

It expands on the application IFS in several areas;

  1. The use of Parts Mapping in IFS.
  2. Expanded Use of the Direct Access Mode of IFS.
  3. Using IFS with Attachment Trauma Challenged Children & Families.
  4. The use of IFS in the process of clinical supervision & consultation.
  5. Coherence Therapy & Memory Reconsolidation in the Unblending and Witnessing Processes.

There will be a lecture and slide presentation on each topic, experiential exercises, and ample practice sessions coached by our amazing team of Guides.

Please note: While the presenters are IFS certified and they are presenting on the authentic IFS model, the training is not affiliated with the IFS Institute and this workshop does not count toward IFS Level One Training. We fully endorse that training & certification, encourage practitioners who are interested in this model to pursue them, and hope that this workshop will inspire many to do so.

You may download the schedule below.

Parts Mapping

The use of drawing and objects to externalize parts-in-the-system as a way to unblend, gain perspective, witness and befriend parts. Conference table and other versions of this method discussed. Case presentation with mapping exercise. Live demonstration, and practice sessions with coaching.

Direct Access

What do you do with a blended part? IFS is more than the In-Sight mode, where the client can go inside and work with their parts. Recognizing blended parts, and ways to work explicitly and implicitly with blended parts are discussed. Video examples. Live demonstration and practice sessions coached by our Guides.

Attachment Trauma

A review of IFS-informed play therapy and sand tray with children, as well as working with parents & families. Art, parts mapping and bibliotherapy applied to families of children affected by attachment trauma. Small group experiential exercise. Video examples.

Coherence Therapy & Memory Reconsolidation

Coherence Therapy (Ecker, et al), developed from memory reconsolidation research, informs experiential therapies as to how to unlock and overwrite implicit learning, which governs unconscious reactions and automatic strategies of protection. Concepts from this approach are taught and applied to differentiation (unbending) of Self from parts and the witnessing process, especially distilling the FEARS of the part. Video examples, live demonstration, and supervised practice sessions.

Clinical Supervision & Consultation

A review of the supervisory and consultant roles, focusing in on use of IFS in dealing with common therapist parts, counter-transference, and dynamics within the clinician-supervisor relationship. A case example is presented. Live demonstration, and extensive practice sessions coached by our dynamic team of Guides.
