Vision: Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. Rs Desk
It is conventionally thought that the month of January is named after Janus [Ancient Roman God]. Janus is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the future and to the past. *Source: Wikipedia
As we welcome January and the new year, it is crucial that we look back and reflect on 2018. Please ask yourself...
- Was I a better teacher than the previous year?
- How successful were my students in the classroom? STAAR EOC?
- How did my presence contribute to campus report card?
- Is my campus a better school because of me?
- Did I shortchange any of my students?
- Did I shortchange my department?
- How did I use my time to improve my craft?
- How many books did I read?
- How many conferences/trainings did I attend?
- Where was my biggest area of growth? Where was my least?
- What was I most proud of this past year?
- Was there anything that kept me from becoming a better teacher?
- Do my actions correlate with my performance as a teacher?
- Am I still passionate about my profession; my success as a teacher; the success of my students; and the success of my campus?
Once again, teachers and staff, as we move forward and set new year’s resolutions for 2019, let us use our current scores as measuring sticks. The goal should always be to improve, no matter what. Whether it be personal resolutions, department goals, or campus goals...let us strive for excellence. Please do not settle for average because our students deserve our very best!
