A Personal Note from Barb

Dear Friends,

I'll be taking some time off from now till about February and I will miss you dearly. I've been diagnosed with breast cancer, which is very prevalent in my family. We are all very proactive about screenings so we think we've caught it in the earliest stages and I have great hope for a smooth recover after the bilateral mastectomy later this week.

I am feeling very blessed not only because it was found so early but because there are so many inspiring, generous people who have stepped forward to ensure that ministry to, with, by and for young people doesn't even miss a beat here at St Pius Tenth!

Sunday Youth Nites will go forward just as planned with the great team of adult leaders sharing the load of gathering, teaching young people and going forth into the community. Our already robust CYO Program is already on a roll and will go on without even a hiccup and you should even be able to continue to get this newsletter because of wonderful folks who have said YES.

Does it go without saying that I will be counting on your prayers and good wishes to help me through this challenge? If you'd like to keep up the ins and outs of my situation here's a website that my daughter, Rachael will be maintaining. with https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/barblegere

Please do pray for me as I will be praying for you too!

Advent Service Project!

Catholic Family Center’s micro enterprise, Healthy Sisters Soup and Bean works, is in great need of volunteers to help pack soup & coffee for the holiday season. The program serves women in recovery and we desperately need volunteers between now and Christmas to meet seasonal demand.

We can use up to 10 volunteers at a time and would like them to serve in three hour blocks between 8 and 3 PM during the week from now until right before Christmas. They can do this one time or many times.

Minimum age is 16 with an accompanying adult. Location: 500 Lee Rd, Rochester NY 14606

Program contacts are Ken Zablotny and Kathy Previte. They can be reached at 546-2784 or kzablotny@cfcrochester.org or kprevite@cfcrochester.org

This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for families, especially when teens need community service hours.

Come Cheer on the St Pius Eagles!

CYO Sports Medicine for the Soul

This year we are using a new curriculum called Sports Medicine for the Soul to help teach our players Catholic Values. Each week we’ll review a character trait & Bible verse along with it.

Trait 3: Respect. Respect is defined as a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious. Etc. and should be treated in an appropriate way.

Remember this Bible verse when praying for Respect: "We know that all things work for the good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
