Student Information for Classroom Placement for Current Kindergartners through 3rd Graders!
The placement of students each year is a task that our staff takes very seriously. Please click here to complete this optional form. This form is optional for parents. While considering your child’s learning characteristics and social interaction style, your child’s current teachers are carefully placing your child in a friendly, collaborative group with other children with whom he/she works well. If you would like your child to be placed with a specific peer, please complete the form below. Every effort will be made to place your child with one of the students listed below. Please list six names to ensure a classroom placement with a peer. If fewer than six names are provided, the likelihood of your child being placed with a peer listed is decreased.
Please complete by March 23, 2020.
Nurse Needs....
Dear Maple Dale families,
I am very low on pants for boys and girls. I prefer leggins in any size for 2-4,4-6,6-10,10-12 for girls and elastic pants for boys. Almost empty on underwear for both as well. It has been a busy wet month. Any donations is appreciated.
Thank you!

Thursday February 27th will be Art Spirit Day. The theme is Art Gallery Opening. Students may dress as a famous artist (exp. Or dress as a security guard or museum worker in the gallery. Be creative, and we hope to see you and your family opening night, Friday, February 28th 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Sycamore High School for the Art Expo located in the gymnasium.

Got plastic bags?
Guess what? Plastic shopping bags are recyclable. But if you think you can toss them in with the bottles, cans or cartons in your recycling bin, we have some bad news. Bags require special sorting and processing machines ― and not every recycling plant has those. In most areas of the country, people should not mix plastic bags in with other recyclables. But people do, and on a massive scale, which causes severe technical problems at general recycling facilities.
A group of Maple Dale 4th graders decided to initiate a plastic film recycling collection here at Maple Dale in our continued efforts to be more environmentally friendly. Working with the administration, the students decided to set up a station near the cafeteria to collect not just plastic grocery bags but other types of plastic film such as clean zip-lock bags, dry cleaning bags, bread bags, etc. Click here to see what types of plastic film is recyclable. These bags will then be delivered to an appropriate recycling facility.
Our 4th graders were inspired to start this important efforts due to reasons like the information shared in this article. We are so proud of our 4th graders for their passion and initiative to help save our planet!
PTO Corner
iSpace is BACK at Maple Dale!
The PTO has generously sponsored iSpace (iSpaceStem.org) to spend 3 days with our students! On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (2/18, 2/19, 2/21), students will spend up to 90 minutes rotating through 4 different STEM hands-on activities. We need parent volunteers to help students, especially the younger ones, with fine motor skills. Please volunteer for morning, afternoon or both.
Parents - you are also welcome to drop in and see your kiddos. If volunteer slots are filled you can still find the schedule through the sign-up genius link.
Box Tops are due - February 24th!

Reminders- please do not walk your child to their classroom, please park down at the district offices to free parking spaces for staff members, and please be aware that a school delay or closure cancels the breakfast.
Please consider making a donation to support an upcoming meeting. Checks can be made out to “Maple Dale PTO” with “All Pro Dads” in the memo line and given to Greg or Doug.
Recycling Rangers
Fact: Recycling any aluminium can help to save a great deal of energy, in fact, enough to run your home television for about three hours!
Toilet tissue accounts for 15 percent of deforestation. We throw away enough paper to make toilet paper for a lifetime. Can you spend an extra minute teaching your Kindergartner or other to use less toilet paper?
In Case You Missed It...
A Note from our Nurse!
Is It a Cold or the Flu?
Your child has a sore throat, cough, and high fever. Could it be the flu? Or just a cold?
The flu usually makes kids feel worse than if they have a cold. But it's not always easy to tell the difference between the two. Here are tips on what to look for — and what to do.
Colds or Flu: Symptoms Guide
Answer these questions to see if your child has the flu or a cold:
Questions
- Did the illness come on suddenly?
- Does your child have a high fever?
- Is your child's energy level very low?
- Is your child's head achy?
- Is your child's appetite less than normal?
- Are your child's muscles achy?
- Does your child have chills?
If most of your answers are "yes," chances are your child has the flu. If your answers are mostly "no," it's probably a cold.
When Should I Call the Doctor?
If you have any doubts, it's best to call the doctor. An illness that seems like a cold can turn out to be the flu. And other illnesses, like strep throat or pneumonia, can seem like the flu. Even doctors sometimes need to do a test to know for sure if a child has the flu or a cold.
It's important to get medical care right away if your child:
seems to be getting worse
has trouble breathing
has a high fever
has a bad headache
has a sore throat
seems confused
What Can Parents Do?
Prevention is the best medicine. Make sure that everyone in your family gets a flu vaccine every year.
Teach your kids good hand washing habits to help stop the spread of flu.
