Ms. Janjua's Grades 3-4 Art Class

January 6 - 15, 2016 | Issue 06

Salaamu Alaykum!

The past two weeks Grades 3-4 students have been learning about our new unit of inquiry, "How We Organize Ourselves" in art class. We've been exploring organization through compiling our student art portfolios, and creating "Gratitude Journals." You can read more about "Gratitude Journals" down below, and inshaAllah throughout the Unit we will be learning about different styles of art to explore how various artists organize their work to influence to the way a viewer would experience their work. Students have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks, and hopefully we all are going to experience just how important reflecting is in the process of making beautiful art work. Enjoy the photos of our work, and inshaAllah I'll be sharing more updates in the next Newsletter two weeks from now! Thank you :)

Wa Salaamu Alaykum,

Ms. Janjua

Throughout our unit, students will be keeping a “Gratitude Journal” in an effort to organize their daily experiences around the concept of gratitude. We will discuss, explore, reflect and hopefully learn about how intrinsically linked gratitude, beauty and art are, and how everything truly leads back to being grateful to Allah (SWT). Students will be given prompts such as “find something that makes a beautiful sound that you are grateful for,” or “find something that has been hard for you that you were ultimately grateful for” to help them consistently input journal entries each week. Throughout this process, we will begin to experience how reflecting and keeping journals is an important part of the creative process.
