Principal Passage...

Here comes fourth quarter! I know we will bring the heat!

Hope you break was special like mine. I recommend Lisbon, lots of walking, my Fitbit does not know what happened! Like a quarter mile track, this is our last turn around.

Reminder to bring a vintage, Whitaker t-shirt for Judy Jones if you have one to offer.

Please review the email Bobby sent with details of the Oration Contest this week. We have some special guest judges volunteering their time. We also are positive about our new time-saving process.

The In and Out of Zone transfer period began on March 18th. Please encourage any residential students to enroll - especially kindergarten so that we account for their capacity prior to transfer applicants being assigned.

Student enrollment data cards
are due to Terri on 4/15. For K-3, mark them with BOY, MOY and LPM (last progress monitoring) result. Notes of insight may be added as you see fit. We will use these cards to build next year's rosters.

Please invite Mikesell, Stern and me to be members of your Haiku digital learning platform - like you add students. As the site is our school-wide PDP goal, we'll want to take stock and schedule an additional refresher if you want. Let us know if you need support.

TWCS Deadline Extended 4/1

"Due to several LEAs and Charters on or with upcoming Spring Breaks, we are extending the survey window for one additional week. The survey will now officially close on Monday, April 4th at Midnight."

Whitaker is at 81% rate with 10 more staff members eligible to respond.

Consumable Book Ordering

In planning for next year needs and budgeting, need to confirm use and value of the consumable resources purchased for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Class use varies in observations. This was discussed by grade-levels last year. Let's hear from individual teachers via an anonymous survey for input. These resources cost a great deal of money that we want to spend wisely.

Please respond to the survey by Wednesday 4/6 due to deadlines for spending resources.

A few more items...

  • April is National School Library Month / National Library Week is the week of April 11th. What a great time to recognize our JoEllen and Allie for the specialized services they offer to our students, teachers, staff, and parents.

Research shows that student achievement is higher in schools where a certified school librarian works directly with students and offers a full media program. We are fortunate.

  • Ecolab Grant Application Ecolab Inc. will sponsor its Visions for Learning Teachers Grants again this year. A quality education is one of our greatest assets and Ecolab is proud to continue their support for educators in the Piedmont Triad area. Ecolab will award a total of $77,000 to qualified grant recipients. Please find attached the 2016 Visions for Learning Grant application. ALL applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Completed applications may be submitted via email to Please note this is the only email address where submissions will be accepted.

  • If you are serving as a Mentor to someone new to our faculty, remember the required Peer Observation and signing Mid-Year PDP updates. Please attempt to get observations done by April 15th or sooner. End of the year for these is not advisable for many reasons. Need support? Reach out to Lindsay or me.

  • Please copy me on your classroom newsletters either via email or on paper. This should be at least bi-weekly or weekly.

Walkthrough Schedule

We have heard your feedback about how we unintentionally go into the same rooms some days. Here is a schedule which should address this issue.

Creasy Monday and Friday
Mikesell Tuesday and Thursday
Stern Wednesday

Bobby also does student observations so may be in on other days. We'll do our best to follow this schedule.
