Re: 2019-2020 Jim L. King MoASSP Middle School & High School Principals of the Year Process
Please email Katy to indicate you have received this email.
Each year, NASSP recognizes excellence in the principalship with the National Principal of the Year (POY) program. As a state affiliate of NASSP, we will use NASSP’s POY application process.
NASSP just opened the application portal late yesterday for the 2020 Principal of the Year Program.
To get started, visit http://nasspawards.org/poyand follow these steps:
1. Click Register.
2. Click Your State.
3. Click Register. Fill out the registration information and create your username and password.
4. Click Application to begin.
You may enter and exit the application at your convenience, and your work will be saved. You also have an option to save your work by clicking the save button.
References: All applicants are required to submit four references with email addresses within the application—one name/email from each of the following categories:
- Student
- Parent/community member
- Teacher
- Administrator
Each person will be provided with short-answer questions regarding the applicant, which they will respond to online (web address and instructions are provided). They cannot view your application, and you cannot view their responses.
Please contact each reference you list to let them know that they will be receiving an email and when (approximately) they can expect it. Note: You should advise them to check all incoming mail as some emails may end up in the spam folder.
Allow sufficient time to complete the short-answer questions before our Missouri deadline
which is Friday, January 4.
State Assessment Data: This section asks for proficiency and advanced data from the Missouri Assessment Program, not specific classes. Even though the MAP data is embargoed till February, you should be ok to include it in your application. If data is not available for specific years, please explain in your essay questions.
5. Final Submission
After the information has been provided, online signatures have been submitted, and your four references have completed their sections, you must finalize your application by clicking the submit button. Your application is not finalized until you submit the application for consideration.
Don't hesitate to contact me for applicable deadlines, requirements, and details, or if you have any questions.
Here are a few more considerations as you move ahead with the application process:
- We will need your application submitted electronically by Friday, January 4.
- Please be aware and make sure your references know the deadline for your state application is Friday, January 4.
- The committee will review applications and make selections by January 18.
- MoASSP will announce the Jim L. King Middle School Principal of the Year and the Jim L. King High School Principal of the Year shortly after that.
- Both recipients will have a deadline of April 1 to complete application to NASSP.
- I have included the judge's scoring rubric below to assist you in completing your application.
Once again, congratulations on being named Principal of the Year for your region. MoASSP is proud of all of you.
