Parent/ Student Edition ~ Issue 13 ~ November 15-19, 2021
Principal's Message
The Calhoun Yellow Jacket Football Team will travel 300+ miles to Memorial Stadium in Waycross, GA to meet up with the Ware County Gators Friday, November 19th. We encourage everyone to show their spirit by wearing black and gold and displaying banners and signs of support at home and place of business this week. To allow for six hours of travel time for our band, students, teachers, parents and community members, we have determined that we must close school on Friday, November 19th. This will be a field trip day for our students and staff. All are encouraged to go to the game to help support the team.
All pre-sale tickets must be purchased through GoFan. The GHSA releases ticket links the weekend before the game is played. Once the ticket link is made available to the public, we will post the link on the Calhoun Athletics webpage and all Calhoun City Schools' social media outlets. Tickets will cost $10 for all GHSA second round playoff football games. More details regarding seating and ticketing information will be released when received from Ware County High School.
The KEEP program will be available for parents who wish to use the service. The cost is $20.00 per day and is open until 6:00 PM. Thank you for your continued support of our students. See you in Ware County! Go Jackets!
American Education Week
American Education Week, first celebrated in 1921, is an opportunity to celebrate public education and to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. American Education Week is always celebrated the week before Thanksgiving and is a reminder to us all to be thankful for the hard work and dedication of those who chose to teach and inspire the next generation of learners.
CCS is proud to celebrate our teachers this week with special treats. I want to encourage our students to thank a teacher this week. It can be a current or former teacher who has had an impact on your life. You can send an email, drop off a special treat, or drop off a handwritten affirmation to our main office teacher affirmation station.
Attention Seniors...Class of 2022
Apply to College Day will be part of this week's Senior class Adulting Day activities that we have planned. We will have college admissions counselors on site to assist students with college applications. We will also have members of our armed forces here to share military opportunities with our students interested in enlisting after high school.
Seniors who have already applied and been accepted to a post secondary institution will need to bring proof of acceptance. This can be an email, screenshot, paper copy, etc. Mrs. Arnold will need this information on Thursday, the 18th. Those who are applying on Thursday will need to bring an electronic form of payment with them. Many schools are waiving their application fees see the listing linked here.
Don't forget to complete the Acceptance Shoutouts to share the good news!
We are excited to have a fun day of activities planned for our seniors!
Attention Juniors...Class of 2023
Shop With A Stinger Information
It is time for the 3rd Annual Shop With A Stinger event! Shop With A Stinger is an NHS sponsored event where students go to Walmart and shop for a younger child and the child’s family for Christmas. High school students can choose a group of 4 or will be placed in a group. Each group will receive a folder containing the child's name and wishlist. We ask that each group donates $100 for their child, so $25 per group member. The younger students will be able to attend this year, and we are so excited! Once everyone has shopped for their assigned child, we will come back to the school and have a pizza and wrapping party!
For any questions you can contact- Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Bunch at CMS, Emma Williams, or Lauren Reece.

Senior Scholarship Information
First, college in any setting is expensive! Colleges have a wide range of scholarships and we do not have a magic listing or go-to guide for all of the scholarships that are available. First, start with the college scholarship websites. Second, the internet is your friend so use it wisely. Lastly, utilize our scholarship links that are posted under the Students Tab (Scholarship Opportunities) on the Calhoun High School website. We have linked it here! Mrs. Arnold will continue to update this throughout the school year.
If you are using Mrs. Arnold's email address for college applications, PLEASE make sure you are using her arnoldk@calhounschools.org email address! This is the email address that is linked to Common App, UGA Portal, Coalition, Slate, etc. If a student has used her CCS Jackets email on their applications, please let her know. You will need to log into your application and change the email to arnoldk@calhounschools.org in order for us to receive notifications and complete.
