Westwood Families,
Great things are growing at Westwood....like 500 seedlings 7th grade math students planted in Ms. Skauge’s math classes that are taking over the Red team. The students have been a part of a community project funded through a grant in partnership with Northtown library, Coon Creek Watershed District, and Westwood. The project focuses on planting native plants for improved water quality and the work integrates literacy, math, and science skills. The students will be planting their plants as a native plant garden buffer between the parking lot and water reservoir stormpond at the Northtown Library.
As we wrap up this year, we are planning for the fall and school next year. It was very encouraging to hear the Governor’s plans to lift many restrictions in the coming weeks. Schools will continue to follow the state’s Safe Learning Plan through the end of the year – including masks and physical distancing. As we return in the fall, we’re hopeful we’ll be returning to a more normal school experience.
If your family is planning to move out of the district before next school year, please let us know. We want to work with you on any transitions and returning any technology and materials.
Today is National School Nurse Day. Our nurses have been invaluable partners during this year of pandemic. We’re grateful for them and celebrate them today. A big shout out to our nurse at Westwood, Amanda Boss, and our lead nurse across all SLP Schools, Becca Williams, for helping to keep our students and staff safe and healthy this school year.
I hope you catch what you are looking for this weekend – it is the fishing opener.
Sincerely,
Tom Larson
Principal

Grade 8 families: 2021-2022 course registration request letters coming soon
Families of current students in 8th grade will receive their 2021-2022 course registration request letters in the mail during the week of May 17. The request letters break down what learning model and course selections your student has chosen for next school year. During the week of May 24, students will work with staff to look at their requests, complete a Career Cluster Finder (career inventory tool), and map out their long-term learner map. During this time, students will be able to request changes to their schedule for next year. Any changes should be directed to their current counselor.
Reminder from our Nurse
Also, please remember to check your child's immunizations this summer so they are ready for back to school in September. For any questions, please call our health office at 763-600-5304.
