Week of December 9th
Youth and Government Community Experience
In late October, members of the Graham High School Youth and Government delegation were asked to present at a banquet in Logan Country for Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy. Other notable leaders in attendance include, but are not limited to, Karen Bailey, Nino Vitale, David Faulkner and newly elected GLS Board of Education member Toni Kite. At the event, Youth and Government students presented information about the program and the immense impact it has had on students. This was a great opportunity to present information about Youth and Government to show community leaders one of the great things happening within Graham Local Schools. The networking skills and learning experiences that Youth and Government students obtained from the event proved to be beneficial and unforgettable for everyone involved.
Youth Advocacy Days
In the middle of November, GHS Youth and Government students Lexi Traylor, Aislen Setty, and Alexis Lewis participated in the Youth Advocacy program through YG. They went on an overnight trip to Columbus, meeting with Ohio’s state representatives and senators in the Statehouse to lobby for current legislation being debated in the Ohio General Assembly. This program was a great learning experience to enhance public speaking, explore a prestigious career path, and get hands-on experience in the proceedings of our state government. The trip not only allowed YG students to speak with legislatures from their district, but also to interact with their peers from across the state and form close relationships! Youth Advocacy Day was an extremely insightful opportunity for GHS students that stimulated growth and prepared them to become the next generation of leaders.
Building On The Foundation Of The Graham Community
The Graham Community Foundation is hoping to help build successful futures for several GHS students. The foundation originated in 2001 with representatives from each of the schools that consolidated to form Graham Local. These schools at Terre Haute, Westville, St. Paris, Concord, Rosewood, and Christiansburg Jackson, were simply the building blocks for our community of the Graham Local School District of today. The foundation’s purpose is to provide money in the form of grants or scholarships to several GHS seniors each year. We serve a variety of students by offering grants for continuing education in trades as well as scholarships for many levels of post secondary schooling including college.
Applications for high school seniors may be obtained in the guidance office and are due back March 27, 2020.
Members of the Graham community are encouraged to help our funds grow in support of our Graham students by sending checks, of any amount, to;

3 Ways to Volunteer for Wreaths Across America
Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,600 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. A program will be occurring Saturday, December 14th at noon with Evergreen Cemetery, St. Paris, corner of S. High St and W. Troy St.
3 Ways you can Volunteer
1. Help on that Saturday. Ceremony begins at Noon, pre help about 11. At Noon, helping lay the wreaths on the graves of each of the 325 veterans.
2. On Wednesday the 11th or Thursday the 12th the wreaths will arrive in St. Paris.
3. We plan to then set the boxes around in the cemetery so that the people can walk to an area, after our ceremony at the flag pole, Saturday, Dec 14, and get the wreaths out to place on the graves in that specific area.
Please contact Linda Fullerton or stop by Graham High School main office for additional details if interested in helping.
