ELL CHECKLISTS:
Thank you to those of you who have completed your ELL checklists in LPAS on the cloud. If you have not, please complete these as soon as possible and refer to the attached instructions should you need help. You do not need to fill out a hard copy. If you need assistance, please contact Mr. Hardie.
POSITIVE PARENT COMMUNICATION CHALLENGE!
We all know how important it is to communicate with our parents - and positive phone calls and emails can really help you build relationships with your students' families! On that note, I have a fun challenge for you! I challenge each of you to make a positive phone call or send a positive email to the parents in your ENTIRE homeroom between now and winter break. Document this communication in CST service tracking. When you have contacted and documented in CST for 100% of your homeroom class, let me know! I will reward you with a 1/2 day sub. I can promise you that this effort will go a long way with parents, and it will be rewarding for you, too!
TEAM BINDERS:
Team Leads, my goal is to have ongoing and frequent communication with you through the use of team binders. Please turn your binders in to Kristen McDavid in the front office each week. I am going to work hard to review your notes, address the action items you have for me, and return the binders to you in a timely manner.
INCREASED RODENT ACTIVITY:
We are seeing an increase in rodent activity. The office is aware of this issue and we are working on solutions to this problem. Help us by keeping your classrooms/pods clean and free of food. Also be sure you are storing food appropriately!
TEACHER ASSISTANT APPRECIATION:
The week of Nov. 13-17 is Teacher Assistant Appreciation Week. What would we do without this awesome group of TAs!? Teaching assistants may teach parts of a lesson, or teach a small group of students who need extra instruction. Many TAs work one-on-one with special needs students, shadowing their student and assisting with classwork, organization and behavior management. Teaching assistants often serve as an extra pair of eyes in the classroom, responding to students’ needs as they arise. They work hard! Please recognize those TAs that help you every day!
VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY:
The assembly on November 10 will be a Veterans Day Celebration. Our very own 5th grade choir will sing as well some students from AHS. We have some veteran guest and will have Doss Owl Boy Scouts presenting the colors. This assembly may run long. Please assist us with student management.
NO ASSEMBLY 11/17:
We will not have an assembly on Friday, November 17th due to the First Grade Thanksgiving program. Please mark your calendars and help us communicate this to parents.
GT DOCUMENTATION:
Teachers, you will be receiving a skill box with folders for each of your GT students. You can use these as needed. Some teachers like to gather work samples and keep them in these folders (not required but helpful in talking to parents). Others use the box and folders to keep the documentation form. These are to help you and support you with the documentation process. Documentation forms will be coming via email from Vickie. Just a reminder, GT documentation forms need to go in the report card at semester and at the end of the year.
COSTCO AT DOSS:
Costco will be in the teacher's lounge on Thursday Nov. 16th, from 10:30 to 1:30 to promote memberships. Stop by and say hello!
TEACHER-LED PD - JANUARY 3:
On January 3rd, we will have our vertical team professional development day.
We are looking for teachers to present. This is an opportunity for you to gain PPfT points by leading professional development. The "table sessions" are 25 minute conversations about a specific strategy or lesson that you have taught. Think facilitator as opposed to presenter!
Teachers, please consider signing up for to teach a table session on our teacher-led PD on January 3rd at Anderson HS. As a staff, I feel we have many great things to share! Each Elementary is asked to have 10 table presenters.
Topics include : Whole Child, Innovative Technology, etc. This is a great opportunity to show professional leadership! Leading professional development shows us that you are willing to go above and beyond, and we take this into consideration as we evaluate PPfT Professional Growth and Responsibilities. You are awesome, and we love to see you shine! Please click on the link below for more info and to sign up. Submission date is 11/1:

STAFF/FACULTY NEWS:
In celebration I want to announce that Latrese Smith had a healthy baby boy on Tuesday. Luke Eze David Asomugha weighed in at 9 lbs and 9 oz and was 22.5 inches long! Mom and big boy are doing well.
In sadness I wanted to let you all know that Connie Soong's mother passed away on Wednesday after a battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with Connie and her family during this challenging time.
Mr. Reed was hospitalized this past weekend with sepsis. He is still hospitalized at this time but is getting better. He is currently in the VA hospital in Temple, Texas. Sending healing thoughts your way, Vince!
As we each deal with various celebrations and sad events, it's comforting to have our Doss friends supporting us on our journey.
