Introduction
Indigenous means originating in a country, the first people. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are indigenous to Australia. Aboriginal people have lived in Australia for more than 40000 years, some experts say it could be up to 70000 years.
Before European settlement Aboriginal people lived in the whole of Australia. Torres Strait Islanders inhabited all the small islands between the top of Queensland and Papua New Guinea.
