Important Arrival and Dismissal Tips
By following the (5) important procedures listed below, you can do your part to help keep our students safe as they enter and exit school each day.
1. Please use only one of the three designated crosswalks to safely cross to/from school each day. See pictures below. Asking students to cross at spots other than the crosswalks is dangerous.
2. Please use only the right hand lane to drop off and pick up students each day. The left lane is used as an exit/drive thru lane. See picture below. Dropping off and/or picking up in the left lane can create a dangerous situation for students.
3. We ask that parents/guardians not park and leave their cars unattended in the drop-off/pick-up lanes in front of the school building. It is important to keep the traffic flow moving by adults staying with their vehicles and students only entering/exiting on the passenger side. If you need to park, please use one of the designated parking spaces in the parking lot.
4. Please be patient and enter/exit school driveways slowly.
5. Please be courteous and watch closely for all pedestrians.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation!!

School Safety Drills
The safety of all children at Gateway as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures.
During our first full week of school and then again to begin the second semester, Gateway students and staff practice each of the (5) main drills listed below. Please take a look at our English/Spanish SRP posters below for more specific information. Ask your child about the drills and review the information listed.
Hold Drill
The purpose of this drill is to clear our hallways and bring all students to a classroom or office area.
Secure Drill
The purpose of this drill is to bring everyone indoors and lock all exterior doors.
Lockdown Drill
Gateway will conduct “Lockdown Drills” periodically throughout each school year. This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a “lockdown drill” all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed.
Evacuation Drill
We will conduct an “Evacuation Drill” each month that school is in session. We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of this drill and not be afraid when the alarm is sounded. By practicing they will know what to do and how to do it.
Shelter Drill
The purpose of this drill is to be prepared to move our students and staff to a safe location within the building in case of severe weather or tornados.
Note From the Learning Community of South Omaha
Good afternoon,
The Learning Community of South Omaha is heading into its spring semester and we are excited to be recruiting qualifying families for our free family program!
We offer ESL, GED and parenting classes as well as many extracurricular programs like String Sprouts, Prime Time and a College Prep program. We look for families who live within the South Omaha area and have children between the ages of 0-4. To break down any barriers, we also offer childcare for the young children of ages 0-4 as well as transportation to those who are unable to drive.
If you want more information, please click on the link below!
